Abstract: Aqueous dispersions of polyurethanes which are crosslinkable by the action of high energy radiation contain (a) a polyisocyanate, (b) a polyol having a molecular weight of from 400 to 6,000 g/mol, (c) if required, a polyol having a molecular weight of from 62 to 399 g/mol, (d) if required, a polyamine having two or more amino groups which are reactive to isocyanate, (e) if required, an aminoalcohol having one or more amino groups which are reactive to isocyanate, (f) a compound containing ionic groups or groups which can be converted into ionic groups and one or more hydroxyl or amino groups which are reactive to isocyanate (g) if required, a monofunctional polyetheral and (h) a compound having one or more ethylenically unsaturated groups and one or more hydroxyl groups. The compound having an ethylenically unsaturated group (h) is used in amounts corresponding to 0.02-0.08 gram equivalent, based on the polyisocyanate (a), of OH, and the polyurethane, dissolved in dimethylformamide, has a Fikentscher K value greater than 40 or is insoluble in dimethylformamide.

Abstract: A nonaqueous polyisocyanate preparation containing a) at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate having a mean NCO functionality of 2.5 to 3.5 and b) an amount which ensures the dispersibility of the polyisocyanates of a product of the reaction of a diisocyanate, selected from tetramethylene diisocyanate, hexamethylene diisocyanate, dodecamethylene diisocyanate, 1,4-diisocyanatocyclohexane, 4,4'-di(isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane, trimethylhexane diisocyanate, tetramethylhexane diisocyanate, 1-isocyanato-3,3,5-trimethyl- 5-(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane, 2,4- and 2,6-tolylene diisocyanate, tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate, p-xylylene diisocyanate, 2,4'- and 4,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane and a mixture of at least two of these diisocyanates, with a monohydrate or polyhydrate polyalkylene ether alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkylene groups and containing a polyether chain having at least 8 ethylene oxide units, the preparation thereof, and the use thereof in aqueous coating compositions and adhesive dispersions.

Abstract: A process is claimed for the prodn. of moulded prods. (I) consisting of a preformed film made of flexible plastic (II), backed with a layer of polyurethane foam (III); the novelty is that any faults in the film produced during mfr. or further processing are repaired before the foaming process by treatment with an aq. dispersion of film-forming polyurethane (IV). Specifically (IV) is derived from (a) 1 mol. (NCO) di- or poly-isocyanate, (b) 0.1-0.8 mol. (OH) di- or poly-hydric alcohol with mol. wt. 400-6000, (c) 0.05-0.5 mol. (OH and/or NHR) of a cpd. contg. OH and/or NHR gps. together with ionic gp(s)., (d) 0-0.5 mol. (OH) di- or polyhydric alcohol with mol. wt. 62-400, (e) 0-0.4 mol. (NHR) di- or poly-amine with prim. or sec. amino gps. (with R = H, 2-4C alkyl or a moiety contg. the gp. NHR), (f) 0-0.4 mol. (OH + NHR) aminoalcohol with prim. and/or sec. amino gp(s). and (g) 0-0.2 mol. (OH) monohydric polyether-alcohol, such that total OH and/or NHR gps in components (b)-(g) = 0.9-1.2 mol.; (b) is a poly-THF, present as an alpha, omega-diol, and (c) is 2,2-bis-(hydroxymethyl)-propionic acid. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is useful, e.g. in the prodn. of seats, arm rests, instruments panels, interior linings, etc. for motor vehicles and aircraft; the process makes it possible to use substrate film (II) which has been damaged (e.g. during deep-drawing, processing by the powder-slush method, etc.), by repairing the damage as above.

Abstract: Carbodiimides which are solid at 25 degrees C, containing carbodiimide structures which are attached to non-aromatic carbon atoms, together with urethane and/or urea structures. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for the production of these solid carbodiimides from di-isocyanates in which the isocyanate (NCO) groups are not attached to aromatic carbon, by reaction in presence of catalysts to form the carbodiimide with cleavage of carbon dioxide, followed by reaction with compounds containing at least two NCO-reactive groups; (b) another process in which the above stages are reversed and the ratio of NCO groups to NCO-reactive groups used in the first stage is at least 2:1; (c) solid carbodiimides obtained by these processes; (d) mixtures containing compounds with ester units together with these carbodiimides; and (e) mixtures containing these carbodiimides and at least one of the following: polyurethanes with ester units and/or polycondensation products such as polyesters, e.g. polyethylene- or polybutylene- terephthalate, polyether-esters, polyester-esters, polyester-amides, polycaprolactones, unsaturated polyester resins and polyamides.

Abstract: Sterile nonwoven fabric is produced by impregnating a textile sheet of nonwoven fabric with an aqueous dispersion containing a polyurethane, then drying the fabric and irradiating it with gamma rays. Independent claims are also included for (a) sterile nonwoven fabric obtained by this process; (b) articles made from this fabric for medical applications or for use as hygiene products, especially sterile packed articles; (c) a process for the production of sterile nonwovens in which an article made of the fabric is packaged before irradiation, in a pack which is impervious to microorganisms.

Abstract: An aqueous impregnating liquid for the easy- care finishing of textiles contains water-dispersible polyurethane and polyalkylene oxide in addition to crosslinkers and other conventional additives. Aqueous easy-care finishing liquid for textiles contains (A) 1-30 wt% water-dispersible polyurethane(s), (B) polyalkylene oxide(s), (C) crosslinker(s), (D) 0.1-15 wt% catalyst(s), (E) 0-15 wt% other textile finishing additives and (F) 0-15 wt% other auxiliary substances (based on solid content). Independent claims are also included for (a) a process for the easy-care finishing of textiles by impregnating the fabric with this liquid and then drying and condensing; (b) easy-care textile fabric treated with this liquid.
