Abstract: Stabilised aqueous C14- to C22-alkyldiketene emulsions containing, as essential components, (a) 10 to 60 % by weight of at least one C14- to C22-alkyldiketene, (b) 1 to 10 % by weight of at least one protective colloid and (c) 0.1 to 20 % by weight of at least one ester of the formula in which R , R are C14- to C22-alkyl, in which case R and R must differ in the alkyl group by at least 4 C atoms, and/or denote identical or different C14- to C22-alkenyl groups, an ester of the formula R -O-CO-O-R (II), in which R and R are alkyl or alkenyl radicals having 2 to 22 C atoms or a urethane of the formula in which R , R and R are identical or different alkyl or alkenyl radicals having 2 to 22 C atoms, and the use of the compounds of the formula I to III as stabiliser for the preparation of alkyldiketene emulsions containing at least 10, preferably 16 to 40 % by weight of alkyldiketene in emulsified form.

Abstract: BASF Aktiengesellschaft Stabilized aqueous alkyldiketene emulsions of the disclosure: Stabilized aqueous Cl4-C22-alkyldiketene emulsions containing, as essential components: (a) from 10 to 60 % w/w of at least one C14-C22-alkyldiketene, (b) from 1 to 10 % w/w of at least one protective colloid and (c) from 0.1 to 20 % w/w of at least one ester of formula I (I) in which R1 and R2 each denote Cl4-C22-alkyl, R1 differing in this case from R2 by at least 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain, and/or the same or different C14-C22-alkenyl groups, or at least one ester of the formula R3-O-CO-O-R4 (II),in which R3 and R4 are alkyl or alkenyl radicals of from 2 to 22 carbon atoms or at least one urethane of formula III (III), in which R5, R5 and R7 are the same or different alkyl or alkenyl radicals of from 2 to 22 carbon atoms and one of the substituents R5, R6 and R7 contains at least 12 carbon atoms, and showing a ratio of emulsified components (a):(c) from 200:1 to 1:1 and the use of compounds of formulae I to III as stabilizers for the preparation of alkyldiketene emulsions containing at least 10% w/w and preferably from 16 to 40% w/w of emulsified alkyldiketene.

Abstract: Sizing agents for paper are based on finely divided aqueous dispersions of copolymers obtainable by copolymerizing from 40 to 140 parts by weight of a monomer mixture of (a) from 20 to 65% by weight of (meth)acrylonitrile, (b) from 35 to 80% by weight of one or more acrylates of monohydric saturated C3-C8-alcohols and (c) from 0 to 10% by weight of other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomers, the weight percentages (a), (b) and (c) always adding up to 100, in the manner of an emulsion polymerization in 100 parts by weight of an aqueous solution containing in solution from 2.7 to 15% by weight of a degraded starch having a viscosity ni from 0.04 to less than 0.12 dl/g at from 40 DEG to 100 DEG C. in the presence of a peroxide initiator.
