Date Jul. 3, 1997A microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic-mechanical properties and based on an isocyanate component consisting essentially of 4,4'-MDI and also further customary constituents has, after heating at from 100 to 120 DEG C. for from 8 to 24 hours, a melting range of from 130 DEG C. as the minimum lower limit to 230 DEG C. as a minimum upper limit, measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at a heating rate of 20 DEG C./min, and a urea content of from 14 to 18% by weight. A process is also provided for preparing such a microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic mechanical properties. The microcellular PU elastomers can be used for producing damping elements.

    Abstract: Ceramic foams are prepared by reaction of organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates with a polyetherol mixture comprising a mixture of bifunctional polyetherols and up to 60 wt.% of a suitable inorganic solid followed by drying and baking. Ceramic foams (I) are prepared by reaction of organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates (A) with a polyetherol mixture (B) and optionally other hydrogen atom containing compounds (C) that are reactive with isocyanates in the presence of water and/or other propellants (D), catalysts (E) and processing aids and additiives (F) followed by drying and baking whereby the polyetherol mixture (B) comprises at least 60 wt.% of at least one bifunctional polyetherol (B1) having an OH number of 20-150 mgKOH/g based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and ethylene oxide whereby the ethylene oxide content is greater than 40 wt.% (with respect to the total quantity of alkylene oxide) and up to 40 wt.% of at least one bifunctional polyetherol (B2) having an OH number of greater than 25 mgKOH/g based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and up to 60 wt.% of a suitable inorganic solid (F1) (with respect to all components (B)-(F).

    Abstract: The invention concerns a foam consisting of at least 70 wt. % of carbon, having an average cell size more than 30 mu m, porosity between 35 % and 99.7 %, a percentage of open cells higher than 90 %, and comprising linking elements between the cells, which, viewed in cross-section, form a triangle with inward-curving sides. Inside the surface of the cross-section, the sum of the surfaces having a cavity constitutes less than 5 % of the total cross-sectional area of the linking elements. The invention also concerns the use of said foams consisting for the major part of carbon in electrical and electrochemical applications, in the form of filtering material, heat insulation material, support material, storage material and as starting material for other transformations. The invention further concerns a method for producing a foam consisting of at least 70 wt. % of carbon, by pyrolizing synthetic foams. Said method is characterized in that the synthetic foams used contain at least 30 wt. % of a polymer material having a nitrogen content higher than 6 wt. %, and having a porosity between 20 and 99 %, as well as a percentage of open cells higher than 1 %.

    Abstract: An agent for the surface modification of fillers for polyamide compositions comprises: (A) an amino-functional silane, a bis-aminosilane a tertiary aminosilane or an oligomer of these; (B) a mixture of an amino-functional silane, bis-aminosilane and/or tertiary aminosilane and an alkyl-, alkenyl- or polyether-functional silane and optionally an oligomer of these; or (C) a mixture of an alkyl-functional silane and an alkenyl-functional silane and optionally an oligomer of these. An agent for the surface modification of fillers for polyamide compositions comprises either: (A) an agent comprising: (i) an amino-functional silane of formula (Ia); (ii) a bis-aminosilane (Ib); (iii) a tertiary aminosilane (Ic); or an oligomer of (Ia)-(Ic) with a degree of oligomerization (DO) of 2-20; (B) a mixture of: (i) a component comprising (a) an amino-functional silane of formula (IIa), (b) a secondary aminosilane (IIb) and/or (c) a tertiary aminosilane (IIc); and (ii) a component comprising either (a) an alkyl-functional silane of formula (III), (b) an alkenyl-functional silane of formula (IV), (c) a polyether-functional silane of formula (V); and optionally (iii) an oligomer of (IIa)-(IIc) and (III)-(V) with a DO of 2-20; or (C) a mixture of: (i) an alkyl-functional silane of formula (IIIa); and (ii) an alkyl-functional silane of formula (IV); and optionally (iii) an oligomer of (IIIa) and (IV) with a DO of 2-20.
