Abstract: In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing copolymers of tetrahydrofuran and but-2-ine-1,4-diol by catalytic polymerization of tetrahydrofuran: The invented preparation process is characterized by polymerization on a heterogeneous acidic polymerization catalyst having acidity of acid centers pKia less than + 2 at concentration of at least 0.005 mmole per one gram of the catalyst, in the presence of but-2-ine-1,4-diol, being present particularly in an amount ranging from 0.04 to 17 molar percent based on tetrahydrofuran. In this preparation process there can be used a series of polymerization catalyst. It is preferred when the catalyst selected contains a molybdenum or tungsten compound. Preferably the catalyst can be doped with a sulfur or phosphorus compound, too.
