    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide excellent heat resistance, light transparency, and mechanical characteristic in good balance and reduce fluctuation in fiber diameters by adding a small amount of a polymer containing specific fluorine in a sheath composition. CONSTITUTION:A fiber component is made of a polymer containing 60 weight percent or more of methylmethacrylata units. A sheath component is made of a main ingredient of a fluorine containing polymer expressed by the formula I, having a glass transformation temperature of 70 deg.C or higher, not containing long chain fluoroalkyl methacrylate units as copolymer component, and 0.1-5 weight percent additive of polymer containing long chain fluoroalkyl methacrylate units and methacrylate units as copolymer components. In the equation I, R1 denotes H or F, (m) denotes 1 or 2, and (n) denotes any of 4 through 10. Namely, improvement is made to provide a sheath component excellent in interface adhesivity between the fiber component and the sheath component while using the fluorine polymer having a high glass transformation temperature as a main ingredient.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester having a dioxydiphenylmethane backbone structure industrially at a low cost by conducting the condensation of 2,6- disubstd. phenol with formaldehyde in an aq. alkali soln. and then adding a dicarboxylic acid chloride soln. in a water-insol. org. solvent to the condensation product to conduct the interfacial polymn. of the condensation product. CONSTITUTION:One mol of a 2,6-disubstd. phenol of formula I (wherein R and R are each halogen, a 1-4C hydrocarbon group, or a 1-4C alkoxy group) (e.g. 2,6-dimethylphenol) and 50-60mol of formaldehyde are condensed, pref. at 60-70 deg.C, in an aq. alkali soln. contg. an alkaline substance in an amt. of at least the same gram equivalents as, pref. 100-200mol% based on, the phenol. Pref., formaldehyde is used as a 10-40wt.% aq. soln. Then is added a dicarboxylic acid chloride soln. in an org. solvent which is water-insol. and a good solvent for polyester (suitably methylene chloride or chloroform) to conduct interfacial polymn., thus giving a polyester having the structural unit of formula II.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the optical resin material which allows exact recording and reproducing with the decrease in optical distortions and is excellent in transparency as well by using a specific thermoplastic arom. polyester as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:The molar fraction (a) of the residual group of the 2, 2'-biphenol deriv. occupying the residual group component of the total diol in a polymer and the molar fraction (b) of the residual group of the diphenic acid deriv. occupying in the residual group component of the total dicarboxylic acid deriv. in the polymer satisfy the relations expressed by formula I. The adjacent phenyl rings intersect orthogonally with each other owing to the steric hindrance of the 2, 2' positions and do not orient on the same plane in the biphenyl skeleton of the 2, 2'-biphenol and diphenic acid unit, therefore, the optical anisotropy of the phenyl rings is offset in the molecules and the optical distortions are decreased. The high transparency eliminated by using the 2, 2'-biphenol and diphenic acid unit having no orientability is obtd. The optical resin material which allows exact recording and reproducing and has the excellent transparency when used, for example, as an optical disk substrate material is obtd. in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high refractive index, satisfactory formability and heat resistance by using a resin contg. specified two kinds of monomers as essential components and having a three-dimensional structure. CONSTITUTION:A plastic lens is made of a resin contg. a monomer represented by formula I (where X is halogen other than F and m=1-5) and a monomer represented by formula II (where R is H or methyl, X is halogen other than F, Y is a group represented by formula III, m=3-5 and n=0-5) as essential components and having a three-dimensional structure. A residue of a multifunctional vinyl compound represented by formula IV (where each of R1 and R2 is H or methyl, X is halogen other than F, A is -SO4- or the like, m=0-2 and n=0-1) or formula V is preferably used as a compound having a three-dimensional structure in the resin. It is preferable that the resin is composed essentially of 20-85pts.wt. monomer represented by the formula I, 5-70pts.wt. monomer represented by the formula II and 10-60pts.wt. units having a three-dimensional cross-linkable structure. Since the monomers represented by the formulae I, II are used by large amounts, a lens having a high refractive index of >=1.63 is obtd. and the thickness of the peripheral part of the lens can be reduced. Since the multifunctional monomer is used, the degree of cross-linking is increased and superior heat and shock resistances and workability are provided.
