    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a sulfur-containing polyester resin having excellent heat resistance, moldability, mechanical strength and light resistance and high refractive index comprising respectively specific reaction-construction units of a dicarboxylic acid component and a dithiol component, and reaction-constructing unit of a dicarboxylic acid component and a diol component. CONSTITUTION:Dicarboxylic acid component containing a compound expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 are halogen or 1-4C alkoxy, etc.) as principal ingredient is polymerized with a dithiol component containing a compound expressed by formula II (R3 and R4 are H or acetyl, etc.; Y is 2-12C aliphatic organic group, etc.) as principal ingredient and a diol component containing a compound expressed by formula III (R5 and R6 are H or acetyl; X is O or S; X1 and X2 are halogen or 1-4C hydrocarbon group; (m) and (n) are 0-4) as principal ingredient in a fraction of the component II so as to be 20-80mol% of total of the dithiol component and the diol component to afford the objective sulfur- containing polyester resin comprising reaction-construction unit of carboxylic acid component and dithiol component and reaction-construction unit of carboxylic acid component and diol component.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an optical resin material having reduced optical distortion and excellent heat resistance by compounding as a main component a polyether resin prepared by reacting an epihalohydrin with diols comprising specific amounts of 2,2'-biphenol and a 4,4'-bisphenol derivative. CONSTITUTION:An optical resin material suitable for optical disk substrates, etc., comprising a polyether resin prepared by polycondensing an epihalohydrin with diols comprising 20-80mole% of 2,2'-biphenol and 80-20mole% of a 4,4'- bisphenol deriwative [e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane] in the presence of a strong alkali catalyst (e.g. sodium hydroxide) and having structured units of formulas I and II (R1 and R2 are 1-12C hydrocarbon groups; X is O, S, etc.; X1 and X2 are H, halogen, etc.; m and n are 0-4) as main repeating units, preferably in an amount of >=95wt.% is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance, moisture resistance and mechanical properties by copolymerizing at least one selected from specific compds. and a specific compd. and forming specific transparent polyester as a core. CONSTITUTION:At least one selected from the compd. expressed by formula I and the compd. selected from terephthalic acid, etc., and the compd. having halogen or hydrocarbon group in at least one of 1', 2', 4', 5' positions in formula II (1 to 5 and 1' to 5' are the positions of substituent) are copolymerized. The transparent polyester formed by incorporating >=15mol% compd. which has >=120 deg.C glass transition temp. and is expressed by formula II is formed as the core. In formula, X is selected from a group consisting of O, S, etc., and alkylidene group; Y is selected from OH or the reactive deriv. group thereof; A1, A2 are selected from a group consisting of halogen and hydrocarbon group. The plastic optical fiber having the excellent heat resistance, light transmission performance, and wet heat resistance is obtd. in this way.
