Abstract: A process for the catalytic gas-phase oxidation of propene to acrylic acid, in which the reaction gas starting mixture is oxidized, with an increased propene loading, in a first reaction stage, over a first fixed-bed catalyst and then the acrolein-containing product gas mixture of the first reaction stage is oxidized, in a second reaction stage, with an increased acrolein loading, over a second fixed-bed catalyst, the catalyst moldings in both reaction stages having an annular geometry.

Abstract: A thermal separation process for the separation of at least one (meth)acrylic monomer enriched material stream from a (meth)acrylic monomer containing mixture comprises use of a device having separate volume elements in which the liquid temperature does not differ by more than 2 degreesC and the total residence time is no greater than 20 hours. A thermal separation process for the separation of at least one (meth)acrylic monomer enriched material stream from a (meth)acrylic monomer containing mixture, comprising the continuous stationary operation of at least one thermal separation device comprising at least one separating chamber optionally containing inserts to which at least one (meth)acrylic monomer containing stream is removed whereby the material stream that is fed to the separator chamber contains x wt.% of components that are different to (meth)acrylic monomers; the material stream having the highest content by weight of (meth)acrylic monomers that is removed from the separator chamber contains y wt.% of components that are different to (meth)acrylic monomers whereby the ratio x:y is at least 5; the separator chamber, excluding inlets and outlets is bordered by a solid phase, comprises at least one recirculating heat exchanger and has a liquid phase filled total volume of at least 1 m3 whereby the temperature of the liquid phase is at least 80 degreesC; and is characterized by subdivision of the separating cavity into n individual volume elements whereby the highest and lowest temperature in the liquid phase within the separate volume elements does not differ by more than 2 degreesC; the total residence time is as defined by equation (1) and is no greater than 20 hours. tges = integral(i=1 to n) msi/mi x 2A (1) To = 100 degreesC; Ti = the arithmetic mean value of the highest and lowest temperature in i volume elements; msi = the total mass of (meth)acrylic monomers in i volume elements containing liquid phase; mi = the total liquid phase mass flow from i volume element. Abstract: Process for the separation of crystals from suspension in a mother liquor comprises addition of the suspension to a wash column having a wall enveloping a process chamber. The wall is of metal and the face away from the process chamber is heated along at least the length of the purified melt zone. A process for the separation of crystals from suspension in a mother liquor comprises: (a) addition of the suspension to a wash column having a wall enveloping a process chamber, (b) feeding of the suspension to the process chamber to form a bed of crystals in the chamber and (c) conveying of the bed of crystals in the process chamber by means of gravity with a counter current flow of a purified melt of the crystals to form a wash front such that the bed of crystals is partitioned into a mother liquor zone and a purified melt zone. The wall is of metal and is heated on the face away from the process chamber along at least the length of the purified melt zone.

Abstract: A process for lengthening the service life of catalysts comprises using a charge of inert material in the contact tubes, the tubular base and between the base and gas inlet and outlet hood of the reactor. The lower hood is connected to a hydraulic lowering device; and (c) a process for burning off deposits on the insert material comprising treating the deposits with an oxygen-containing gas containing 0.1-50 vol.% oxygen at 200-800 deg C and 0.01-5.0 MPa pressure.
