Abstract: Method of separating acids from reaction mixtures by means of an auxiliary base, where the auxiliary base b) reacts with the acid to form a salt which is liquid at temperatures at which the desired product is not significantly decomposed while the liquid salt is being separated off and c) the salt of the auxiliary base forms two immiscible liquid phases with the desired product or the solution of the desired product in a suitable solvent, in which the auxiliary base used is an alkylmidazole, which has a solubility in 30% strength by weight sodium chloride solution at 25° C. of 10% by weight or less and whose hydrochloride has a melting point below 55° C.

Abstract: Solvent system based on molten ionic liquid for biopolymers in the form of carbohydrates, comprises optionally additives and a protic solvent or its mixture, and if the protic solvent is water alone, then this is present in the solvent system in an amount of more than about 5 wt.%. Independent claims are included for: (1) a method for the production of a solvent system comprising mixing the carbohydrates with the molten ionic liquid and the protic solvent and/or its mixture, until the carbohydrates are dissolved; (2) a method for the production of regenerated carbohydrates, preferably starch, cellulose and their derivatives using the solvent system, where the solvent system is precipitated, preferably wet spun in a coagulation medium, and contains a solvent, which does not dissolve the carbohydrates and is mixable with the molten ionic liquid; (3) a regenerated carbohydrates, preferably in the form of regenerated cellulose fibers obtained by the above method; and (4) spinnable fibers based on regenerated cellulose with a wet fibrillation grade of /~2.
