    Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing ruthenium complexes of genera l formula (I): RuX2(=CH-CH2R)L1L2, wherein X is an anionic ligand, R is hydrog en or an optionally substituted C1-20 alkyl radical or C6-20 aryl radical, and L1 and L2 independently are neutral electron-donor ligands. Said ruthenium complexes are produced by a) reacting RuX3 with a diene in a solvent on the basis of one or several aliphatic secondary alcohols in the presence of a reducing adjuvant, reacting said mixture with L1 and L2 in the presence of a t least one coordinating weak base and hydrogen and without isolating any intermediates, b) reacting the mixture with compounds of general formula (II ): R-C~CH, wherein R has the meaning indicated above, in the presence of a soluble chloride source.

    Abstract: The preparation of olefins from steam cracker or refinery C4 streams is carried out by A) if desired, extractive distillation of butadiene from the C4 stream using a butadiene-selective solvent, B) selective hydrogenation of butadienes and acetylenic impurities in the steam cracker or refinery C4 stream or the stream from step A), with simultaneous or subsequent, at least partial isomerization of 1-butene to 2-butene, C) removal of i-butene from the C4 stream obtained in step B) by reaction with an alcohol to form an ether, D) removal of oxygen-containing impurities from the C4 stream obtained in step C) using adsorber materials, E) two-stage metathesis of the butenes in the C4 stream obtained in step D) by conversion of 1-butene and 2-butene present in the C4 stream into propene and 2-pentene and subsequent reaction of the 2-pentene with ethene in the presence of a metathesis catalyst to form propene and 1-butene.

    Abstract: Preparation of propene and optionally 1-butene comprises converting butene isomers to propene isomers using metathesis catalyst and converting formed 2-pentene to propene and 1-butene, isolating and recycling the 2-butene fraction. Preparation of propene and optionally 1-butene comprises: (a) converting 1-butene and 2-butene in the presence of a metathesis catalyst containing group VIb, VIIb or VIII metals; (b) removing propene and 2-pentene formed; (c) converting the 2-pentene using ethene to propene and 1-butene in the presence of the metathesis catalyst in (a); (d) removing propene and 1-butene formed; and (e) discharging the 1-butene and partially isomerizing 1-butene to 2-butene in the presence of a catalyst and recycling the 1-butene and 2-butene with a part of the unreacted 4C-fraction from (a) to (a). An Independent claim is also included for the apparatus for carrying out the preparation of propene and 1-butene comprising a metathesis reactor (R01) connected to a distillation column (K101) for removing 2/3C low boiling, 4C middle boiling and 5C+ high boiling phases; column (K301) for removing ethene and propene; and reactor (R02) for reacting 2-pentene with ethene.
