    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of a polyester having high elastic modulus, etc., economically, in high purity and yield, by reacting alpha,omega-bis(phenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid with chlorine in the presence of a lower fatty acid. CONSTITUTION:To obtain the titled compound in a colorless state, in high purity, by reacting the alpha,omega-bis(phenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid of formulaI(R is H or lower alkyl; n is 2, 4 or 6) or its lower alkyl ester with chlorine in the presence of a 2-6C lower fatty acid such as acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, caproic acid, especially acetic acid, thereby selectively monochlorinating the ortho-position of the benzene ring based on the adjacent oxygen atom. The compound of formulaIis preferably prepared by heating the compound of formula III together with an alkylene dichloride.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:An expanded resin molding having mechanical properties excellent in isotropy, prepared by expansion-molding an aromatic polycondensate showing optical anisotropy in a molten state. CONSTITUTION:An expanded resin molding, cell content of 5-75vol%, prepared by expansion-molding an aromatic polycondensate showing optical anisotropy in a molten state, e.g., p-hydroxybenzoic acid type fully aromatic polyester consisting of p-hydroxybenzonic acid and 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid. Imparting of a cell structure to a crystalline polymer molding allows the polymer molecular chains to take a structure in which the chains are highly oriented along the surfaces of cells and makes it possible to obtain mechanical properties excellent in isotropy because of the effect of three-dimensional orientation.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which has improved extrusion stability and gives moldings having good mechanical properties, appearance and heat resistance, by blending a fibrous or particulate reinforcing agent, polyphenylene sulfide and a specified organometallic compd. with a thermoplastic polyester. CONSTITUTION:5-150pts.wt. fibrous and/or particulate reinforcing agent, 5- 100pts.wt. polyphenylene sulfide, and 0.1-2pts.wt. one or more compds. selected from GroupIor II metal stearates, benzoates, terephthalates and monomethylterephthalates, are blended with 100pts.wt. thermoplastic polyester. Examples of the fibrous reinforcing agents are glass fiber, asbestos fiber and metallic fiber. Examples of the particulate reinforcing agents are talc, alumina and glass bead.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled molding excellent in impact resistance, high- temperature mechanical properties, heat resistance, etc., by adding a reinforcement and polyphenylene sulfide, melt-molding the mixture and then heat-treating the molding under a relatively severe condition. CONSTITUTION:To 100pts.wt. thermoplastic polyester are added 5-150pts.wt. fibrous and/or particulate reinforcement (e.g., glass fiber, alumina, or silicon oxide) and 5-100pts.wt. polyphenylene sulfide of formulaI, wherein Ph is a group of formula II, III or IV or a like group. The purpose reinforced polyester resin molding is obtaned by melt-molding the resin composition with an injection molding machine or an extruder and heat-treating the produced molding for at least 20min at a temperature of 200-280 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymerized polyester having rigidity, high heat resistance, and improved color tone efficiently, by esterifying a specific aromatic dicarboxylic acid component with an alkylene glycol, followed by polycondensation. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic dicarboxylic acid component comprising 25- 80mol% 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid having an average longer diameter of particle of >=0.8mu is esterified with (B) an alkylene glycol (preferably ethylene glycol), and this esterified substance is subjected to polycondensation to give the desired polyester. The diphenylcarboxylic acid, for example, is preferably obtained by dissolving 4,4'-diphenyl-carboxylic acid in dimethyl sulfoxide, followed by purifying it through recrystallization, etc. Terephthalic acid, etc. is preferable as another acid component of the component A, etc. EFFECT:Slurry properties are improved, and esterification can be carried out in a short time stably and efficiently.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A polyester copolymer containing diphenyldicarboxylic acid is melt spun at a specific taking-up speed and drawn to produce the titled fiber suitably used as an industrial material, because of its high Young's modulus, strength and elongation. CONSTITUTION:A polyester copolymer with an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-1.8, mde from (A) the acid components consisting of 45-75mol% 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid and 55-25mol% terephthalic acid and (B) the diol components mainly consisting of ethylene glycol is melt spun at a winding-up speed of more than 5,000, preferably more than 8,000m/min to give a yarn of 100-280X10 optical birefringence. Then, the resultant yarn is drawn at a 1.1-4.0 draw ratio to give the objective fiber of 280-400X10 optical firebringence. USE:Tire cored and conveyor belt.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a copolyester having high rigidity, a high m.p., excellent heat resistance and good color, by esterifying a specified dicarboxylic acid with a specified alkylene glycol and polycondensing the resulting ester. CONSTITUTION:A reaction product, conversion to ester >=90%, is obtained by esterifying (A) a dicarboxylic acid consisting of 45-80mol% diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and 55-20mol% hexahydroterephthalic acid, cis content 30- 100mol%, with (B) an alkylene glycol such as ethylene glycol at a B/Amol ratio of 1.1-4.0 and a temperature of 220-280 deg.C in the presence of an esterification catalyst. Next, this reaction product is passed through a filter to remove foreign matters. Then, the filtered product is made to polymerize in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst; evacuation of the polymerization kettle is started when the kettle temperature reaches a range of 230-260 deg.C; and when a degree of vacuum of 1mm.Hg is reached, the polycondensation is continued at a kettle temperature in the range of 260-310 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a highly rigid, highly heat-resistant polyester, by resterifying ethylene glycol with a dicarboxylic acid mixture containing diphenyl- 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid under specified conditions and then polycondensing the reaction mixture. CONSTITUTION:Into an esterification apparatus are introduced (A) ethylene glycol and (B) a mixture consisting of 40-80mol% diphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and 60-20mol% other dicarboxylic acids, in a mol ratio of (A)/(B) of 1.1-2.5:1. Then, the esterification reaction is started at 230-270 deg.C and at 0.5-2.5kg/cm g. When the degree of esterification reaches 20-60%, the pressure is gradually released, and the esterification is brought to completion at normal or reduced pressure. Then, titled polyester is obtained by subjecting the esterification product to polycondensation. EFFECT:It is possible to obtain a polyester which is excellent in m.p., crystallization characteristics, melt moldability, and is useful in the production of fibers, films, molded products, etc.
