Abstract:
A two-stroke cycle internal combustion engine without crankcase scavenging is disclosed which is able to operate in a four-stroke mode at cranking and idle speeds. The engine utilizes a turbocharger driven by exhaust gases to recharge the cylinder with fresh air or an air/fuel mixture. An auxiliary inlet valve responsive to pressure within the cylinder enables the engine to operate in a four-stroke mode, thus eliminating the need for an externally driven air pump when the engine is either idling, being started, or under light loads where turbocharger boost is too low to supply sufficient flow of air or an air/fuel mixture.

An apparatus for actuating valves consisting of a pair of main intake and exhaust valves and at least one auxiliary intake and/or exhaust valve, comprising cams on a single common cam shaft, for driving the associated valves, and rocker arms which can independently swing about fulcrum located in an alternate arrangement in an axial direction of the cam shaft, to transmit the movements of the cams to the associated valves so as to independently drive the valves.

An internal combustion cylinder assembly includes a cylinder having a combustion chamber and a piston. An intake valve provides a working fluid to the combustion chamber while the piston moves from a top dead center position to a bottom dead center position. A pre-combustion chamber is connected communicably to the combustion chamber via a Suder valve and conveys a portion of the working fluid to the pre-combustion chamber while the Suder valve is substantially open. The Suder valve may open substantially simultaneously with the intake valve, remain substantially open while the piston moves from the top dead center position to the bottom dead center position during an intake stroke, and close substantially while the piston is returning to the top dead center position during a compression stroke.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Einlaßkanalsystem für eine Brennkraftmaschine, das mehrere Einlaßkanäle (6) und Einlaßventile (3) beinhaltet, wobei ein Gasstrom in einem Nebeneinlaßkanal (6) durch einen Drehschieber (8) drosselbar und umlenkbar ist, immer ein zündfähiges Gemisch in den Bereich einer Zündkerze geleitet wird und über den Drehschieber (8) auch eine Abgasrückführung steuerbar ist.
