    Abstract: RADIO RESOURCE CONTROL-SERVICE DATA UNIT RECEPTION A method for processing a received communication (80) which includes periodic transmissions of a set of information segments. A first transmission of the set of information segments is received and processed to identify each of the segments as valid or invalid (81). The valid segments (82) of the first set are then stored. Where all segments of the set are not stored (83), subsequent transmissions (85) of the set of information segment are received and only those segments not previously stored are processed to identify each such segment as valid or invalid. The valid segments so identified (81) are then stored (82). Subsequent transmissions (85) are repeatedly received unless all segments of the set have been stored.

    Abstract: A method for assigning a tracking area (TA) is disclosed. A mobility stat e of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is determined and the TA is ass igned based on the determined mobility state. Also disclosed is a method for accessing a closed subscriber group (CSG) TA. A CSG TA identifier is receiv ed at a WTRU and is stored. A CSG TA broadcast is received and the broadcast CSG TA is accessed if an identifier of the broadcast CSG TA matches the sto red CSG TA identifier. Also disclosed is a method for changing a mobility st ate of- a WTRU. A current mobility state of the WTRU is determined and a pre determined metric of the WTRU is examined. The predetermined metric is evalu ated to determine if the metric has crossed a threshold and the mobility sta te is changed based on the evaluated metric.
