Abstract: A method for battery conservation in a wireless communication system begins with requesting a battery level measurement from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) (102) by a radio network controller (RNC) (104). The battery lev el is measured at the WTRU (102) and is reported to the RNC (104). The battery level measurement is stored in the RNC (104), where it can be accessed by radio resource management (RRM) (100) procedures. The battery level measurement is applied to the RRM (100) procedures by making adjustments to the procedures based on the battery level measurement, whereby the battery o f the WTRU (102) is conserved.

A method for congestion control in the downlink of a wireless communication system having a WTRU and a RNC begins by receiving a transmission power report for each user. The transmission power for each user is calculated, and congestion relieving measures are implemented based upon the average transmission power and the WTRU battery level.

After the duration expires, the channel is automatically released to the user. Embodiments of the invention relate to establishing the temp-DCH channel, determining the data rate and duration of the channel. Other embodiments relate to establishing back-to-back temp-DCH channels and the implementation details of these embodiments. Additionally, one embodiment relates to adding a start/stop function to the medium access controller which can be used in conjunction with temp-DCH as well as other applications.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing path-based traffic stream (TS) admission control in a wireless mesh network having a distributed and/or centralized admission control architecture is disclosed. When the wireless mesh utilizes distributed admission control architecture, a source mesh point (S.MP) transmits a request for TS admission requiring certain resources/quality of service (QoS). The request propagates through the wireless mesh network until the destination mesh point (D.MP) is reached and an admitted path is determined. If an intermediate mesh point (MP) is unable to meet the requested resources/QoS for the TS, the S.MP is notified. When the wireless mesh network utilizes centralized admission control architecture, a S.MP requests a route to the D.MP from a central controller. The central controller maintains a status of MPs in the wireless mesh network, and selects a best route to handle the TS to satisfy the requested resources/QoS. Figure: 3
