Abstract: PURPOSE:To detect an object position with high accuracy and without being influenced by temperature and time aging, by comparing the outputs of the first and the second photodetecting means by a movement of an object to be detected, by a comparing means. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 3 and photodetectors 2A, 2B are placed oppositely by placing a moving path of an object to be detected 10 between them. When the object 10 moves in the direction as indicated with an arrow, the photodetecting quantity of the photodetector 2A is varied in proportion to the movement of the object 10 functioning as a photointerrupter. The photodetector 2B is placed so as to photodetect a prescribed light quantity during photodetecting of 2A. Outputs of photodetectors 2A, 2B are inputted to a comparator 7 through operational amplifiers 6A, 6B. A displacement point where an output of the comparator 7 is inverted by movement of the object 10 is detected as a position of the object 10. The photodetectors 2A, 2B photodetect the light of the same light emitting element 3, therefore, a position can be measured with high accuracy and without being influenced by temperature characteristics of the light emitting element 3 and time aging.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate effect of temperature changes or the like, by comparing a signal of a light receiving element arranged at the incident position from a light receiving element with a signal of a light receiving element arranged at the incident position of the reflected light due to smoke when it generated though light is hard to enter from a light emitting element. CONSTITUTION:A phototransistor PT2 for detecting reflected light due to smoke and an LED1 are arranged through a light shielding plate 3 which a phototransistor PT6 is so arranged that light emitted from the LED1 is incident directly. When no smoke is generated, the output voltage V1 of the PT2 goes to the L level because of no incident light from the LED1 while the output voltage V2 of the PT6 is obtained to a specified extent as light of the LED1 reduced with a slit 7 is incident thereinto. Hence, the output voltage V0 of a comparator 4 moves to the L level. When smoke generates, light emitted from the LED1 is reflected by the smoke to be incident into the PT2 and as the output V1 of the PT2 becomes larger than the output V2 of the PT6 with decrease in the incident light into the PT6, the output V0 of the comparator 4 moves to the H level thereby allowing the detection of smoke. A higher reliability can be obtained as the waveform of the output V0 is in noway affected by changes in the ambient temperature or the like.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To detect original size with high reliability only by providing one sensor for original size detection by allowing the photodetecting element of the sensor to photodetect reflected light from an original cover which is irradiated with light from a light emitting element from below and held closed while moving under an original platen, and detecting and deciding an output change due to the original. CONSTITUTION:Only light which is emitted by the light emitting element 5 of the sensor 7 provided under a transparent plate where the original is placed and transmitted through a transparent plate, reflected by the original cover 4 in a closed state, and not cut off by the original is incident on the photodetecting element 6. The output of the photodetecting element 6 of the sensor 7 which moves under the transparent plate in parallel to the original is sent to an AND gate 9 through an amplifier 8 and an inverter 9 and pulses from an oscillator 10 are inputted to a gate 11 and counted by a counter 12. Its signal is passed through a DA converter 13 and compared with reference voltages E1-E4 of comparators 14-17, whose outputs are passed through a decoder 18, so that signals corresponding to the original size are outputted from FFs 20.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the number of fibers to half and reduce the size of the reader, and improve the resolution by arraying tip parts of fibers at a light emission side and a photodetection side facing a readout surface alternately in a line. CONSTITUTION:Tip parts of light-emission side fibers A1, A2... and tip parts of photodetection side fibers B1, B2... are arrayed alternately in a line at right angles to the readout surface 1. The fibers A1, A2... are connected to light emission elements LED1, LED2..., and the fibers B1, B2... are bundled and connected to a photodetecting element PD1. Then, the elements LED1-LED16 are turned on by a timing generating circuit 32 on time-division basis to irradiate the surface 1 with light through the fibers A1, A2... successively, and reflected signals from the surface 1 are inputted to the element PD1 through the fibers B1, B2.... The output of the element PD1 is amplified 11 and compared 31 with a reference signal, and consequently a signal V0 of H or L is outputted from a decision circuit 41 as a picture signal corresponding to the light emitting element in a light emitting state.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance resolution and to decrease crosstalks by bundling optical fibers by plural number of fibers, by setting each light emitting and receiving element common to optical fibers and arranging a tip at the side of a picture of optical fibers in such a way that light emitting and receiving elements become a different pair. CONSTITUTION:When optical fibers 4 and 5 are nine pairs of light emitting/receiving elements, they are bundled by three pieces, for instance, 4-a, 4-b and 4-c, and 5-a, 5-b and 5-c. In this case light emitting elements 2 and light receiving elements 4 are bundled by three, set common to optical fibers such as (a), (b) and (c), and tips at the side of pictures of optical fibers are so arranged to become a different pair. Optical fibers have flexibility; therefore their arrangement is extremely easy. For nine pairs of optical fibers, three light emitting and receiving elements each are sufficient. Moreover flexibility of optical fibers are advantageous when they are incorporated in a small case, and miniaturization can be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To detect the extent and direction of movement invariably accurately by providing a rotating body which consists of a ball for movement detection, an annular disk plate stop it, and a rotating roller perpendicular to the disk plate. CONSTITUTION:When the main body 1 is moved, the detection ball 2 rotates, the rotating roller 5 contacting its peak part also rotates around a shaft 7 as a center, and its extent of rotation is detected by a photoelectric sensor 10. Its detection output is read by a circuit 12 at intervals of time to obtain the extent of movement of the main body 1. When the main body is changed in moving direction, the ball 2 also changes in rotating direction, but the rotating roller 5 follows up the movement and rotates horizontally to become parallel to the rotating direction of the ball 2. The roller 5 rotates horizontally so that the rotating shaft 7 is invariably at right angles to the rotating direction of the ball 2, so the annular disk plate 6 rotates horizontally by the movement of the main body 1 and its extent of rotation is detected by a photoelectric sensor 11 and read by the circuit 12 to obtain the moving direction of the main body 1.
