    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition of high heat resistance and excellent moldability by filling a specific polyester resin with glass fiber at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100 pts.wt. of at least one of liquid crystalline resin selected from liquid crystalline polyester resins forming an anisotropic melt phase (preferably containing aromatic oxycarbonyl units) and liquid crystalline polyester- amide resins (preferably containing aromatic iminocarbonyl units) are filled with (B) 5 to 300 pts.wt. of glass fibers of 3 to 15mum average diameter and 0.02 to 0.55mm average length where the proportion of the glass fibers more than 1mm long is 0 to 15wt.% and less than 0.1mm is 0 to 50% based on the to hole glass fibers.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject molded product of low linear expansion coefficient, excellent in mechanical properties and heat resistance, useful for electrical and electronic parts, etc., by e.g. injection molding, under specified conditions, of a blend of a thermoplastic resin with a liquid crystalline resin capable of forming anisotropic molten phase at specified proportion. CONSTITUTION:In a blend of (A) 99-50wt.% of a thermoplastic resin such as polyester and (B) 1-50wt.% of a liquid crystalline resin capable of forming anisotropic molten phase (e.g. a copolymer of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and polyethylene terephthalate), the blending ratio of the components A to B is so defined that the shear rate-dependent curve for the melt viscosity of the component B at a molding temperature ensured to cross over such curve for the component A determined at the same temperature within the range of a shear rate of 10-2000/sec, and such a blend is kneaded in a molten state at a temperature not lower than the liquid crystal initiation temperature for the component B and put to injection molding or extrusion at a temperature not lower than the liquid crystal initiation temperature, thus obtaining the objective molded product.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a liq. crystalline polyester which is produced by melt polymn. alone and has an optical anisotropy and improved flowability, melt spinnability, and mechanical properties by specifying the m.p. and logarithmic viscosity of the polyester. CONSTITUTION:p-Hydroxybenzoic acid (A), and arom. dihydroxy compd. (B), ethylene glycol (C), and an arom. dicarboxylic acid (D) are copolymerized in molar ratios of (A+B)/(A+B+C), C/(A+B+C), and A/B of 60-95%, 40-5%, and (78:22)-(93:7), respectively, thus giving a liq. crystalline polyester which comprises structural units of formulae I to IV (wherein R1 represents at least one member selected from groups expressed by formulae V; R2 represents at least one member selected from groups expressed by formulae VI; X is H or Cl; and the total amt. of units of formulae II and III is equimolar to that of formula IV) and which has an m.p. (Tm, deg.C) satisfying formula VII, a logarithmic viscosity in the melting range of 30 deg.C or narrower (measured by differential calorimetry) of 1.0-3.0dl/g, and a difference between the flowing start temp. and the melting completion temp. (obtd. from the temp. dependence curve of the complex viscosity) of 25 deg.C or lower.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of a thermotropic liq. crystalline polyester to an epoxy resin without detriment to the excellent mechanical properties and heat resistance inherent in the polyester by compounding it with a polyalkylene ether compd. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystalline polyester compsn. comprising 80-99wt.% thermotropic liq. crystalline polyester and 20-1wt.% polyalkylene ether compd. is provided. The polyester comprises a copolymer consisting of structural units of formulas I, II, III, and IV (wherein R1 is a group of formula V or VI; and R2 is a group of formula VII or VIII). Although the contents of structural units of formulas I, II, III, and IV are not specified, molar rations of [(I)+(II)]/[(I)+(II)+(III)], (I)/(II), and (IV)/[(II)+(III)] are pref. 0.5-0.95, (75: 25) to (95:5), and 50:50, respectively, from the viewpoint of flowability and heat resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the molded article excellent in mechanical property and surface appearance by roughening the surface of a molded article consisting of a liq.-crystal polyester shown by the specified formula and an inorg. filler with an acidic soln. and an alkaline soln. and metallizing the surface by plating. CONSTITUTION:One hundred pts.wt. of a liq.-crystal polyester shown by the formula (k/1/m/n=80/7.5/12.5/20) is mixed with one or >=2 kinds of inorg. fillers (magnesium oxide, barium sulfate, zinc phosphate, calcium silicate, etc.) selected from a group consisting of the oxide, sulfate, phosphate, silicate, etc., of group IIa or IIb elements to form the molded article of the liq.-crystal polymer resin composition. The molded article is successively treated with an acidic soln. (sulfuric acid) and an alkaline soln. (potassium hydroxide, etc.) to roughen its surface and then chemically plate it. Consequently, a liq.-crystal polymer resin molded article with the surface metallized excellent in plating film adhesive strength and plating thermal cycle is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition, excellent in solder heat resistance and useful as electrical and electronic parts, etc., by including a specific liquid crystal polyester, a filter, an organic bromine compound and sodium antimonate in a specific proportion. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is obtained by including (B) 0-200 pts.wt. filler such as glass fiber, (C) 0.5-60 pts.wt. organic bromine compound such as polybrominated styrene, having 1X10 to 30X10 weight-average molecular weight and expressed by formula VII and (D) 0.1-30 pts.wt. sodium antimonate in (A) 100 pts.wt. liquid crystal polyester composed of structural units expressed by formulas I to IV (R1 is formula V, etc.; R2 is formula VI, etc.) at (75/25) to (95/5) molar ratio of the structural units expressed by formulas (I/II). The amount of the aforementioned structural units expressed by formulas I and II is 60-90mol% based on the structural units expressed by formulas I to III and the amount of the structural units expressed by formula III is 40-5mol% based on the structural units expressed by formulas I to III.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a liq. crystal polyester resin compsn. with small mechanical anisotropy by compounding a liq. crystal polyester resin forming a specified anisotropic molten phase with a specified silane-contg. compd. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystal polyester resin compsn. prepd. by compounding 100 pts.wt. liq. crystal polyester resin (A) which consists of the repeating units of formulas I, II and IV or I, II, III and IV and forms an anisotropic molten phase, 0-200 pts.wt. filler (B) and 0.01-20 pts.wt. silane-contg. compd. of formula V. In the formulas, R1 is a group of formula VI, etc., and R2 is a group of formula VII, etc. In addition, the structural unit of formula IV is equimolar with the structural unit of formulas (II+III). Examples of the filler induce glass fibers, ceramic fibers, metal fibers, carbon fiber, clay and titanium oxide. As the compsn. exhibits small mechanical anisotropy, it can be used for various purposes where dimensional accuracy is required, such as electric and electronic parts.
