A high pressure oil reservoir (78) is at least partially defined by the plunger and the lifter body closed end, and is in one-way fluid communication with the low pressure oil reservoir, whereby oil is received into the high pressure reservoir from the low pressure oil reservoir. A cap (100) is reciprocatingly disposed within the sleeve and engaged with the plunger. First (110) and second (112) seals are located between an outer circumferential surface of the lifter body and an outer circumferential surface of the cap, respectively, and an inner circumferential surface of the sleeve, the seals respectively located between the oil feed hole and one end (52) of the sleeve, and the oil bleed hole and the other end (54) of the sleeve, whereby oil is precluded from exiting the lifter assembly through the ends of the sleeve.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a control arrangement for an inlet valve in a piston engine adapted between a cam device (5) of a camshaft (4) of the engine (1 ) and an inlet valve mechanism (6) arranged to open and close the inlet valve (3) in association with a cylinder of the engine, which control arrangement (7) comprises a body part (8), in which a piston device (9) is movably arranged to be in force transmission connection with the camshaft (4) and the valve mechanism (6), said body part (8) and the piston device (9) together defining a first chamber (13), into which hydraulic medium can be selectively fed, and a second chamber (19) connected to the first chamber via duct means (18,18', 18"), the flow of hydraulic medium from the first chamber (13) to the second chamber (19) being controlled for providing a delay in the closing of the inlet valve (3). The body p a r t ( 8 ) i s provided with two or more flow ducts (18a,18b,18c;18'a,18'b;18"a,18"b,18"c) for arranging different routes for the flow of hydraulic medium from the first chamber (13) to the second chamber (19). Control means (17, 17', 17") are provided for selecting the route of flow to be utilised in each case to provide different closing delay.
Abstract:
A lash adjuster in which, when a plunger descends, a valve element moves to a valve-closed position without delay. A check valve (27) has a valve hole (28) penetrating through a bottom wall (17) of a plunger (12), a retainer (30) placed in a high pressure chamber (25) and vertically moving together with the plunger (12), and a valve element (29) capable of vertically moving in the high pressure chamber (25), between a valve-opened position at which the valve element (29) is separated from the valve hole (28) to be placed on the retainer (30) and a valve-closed position which is located above the valve-opened position and at which the valve element (29) closes the valve hole (28). When the plunger (12) is at a standstill, the valve element (29) is held at the valve-opened position by the self-weight.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A hydraulic lash adjusting tappet for an internal combustion engine of the type supplying oil to a passage communicating with the tappet-receiving guide bore in the engine. The tappet has a roller follower on the cam end and a registration means adjacent the opposite end for orienting the roller with respect to the engine cam. The tappet body has at least one localized collector recess disposed longitudinally coincident and peripherally spaced with the registration means. In one embodiment the registration comprises a pair of oppositely disposed flats and the tappet has a pair of diametrically opposed collector recesses interconnected by a peripheral groove spaced longitudinally therefrom to by-pass the flats and provide sufficient surface for leakage control. An oil inlet hole is formed in one of the collector recesses for supplying the lash adjuster valve in the tappet. The localized recess is aligned with the engine supply passage by the orientation of lthe registration surface. I
Abstract:
An hydraulic lash adjuster (10) for internal combustion valve gear having a body (12) defining a bore (14) with a plunger (16) slidably received in the bore (14) forming a relatively small volume high pressure hydraulic chamber (27). A valving orifice (38) is provided in the plunger for supplying hydraulic fluid to the chamber (27) upon relaxation of valve event forces and a one-way check ball valve (92) closes the orifice and the hydraulic chamber upon application of valve event forces to the plunger. The check ball has a diameter not greater than 34-1/2% of the plunger diameter, thereby enabling a smaller valve member and smaller chamber for a given body envelope. The smaller hydraulic chamber volume, when filled results in decreased volume of entrained air within the hydraulic fluid retained therein and therefore less shortening of the lash adjuster under valve event forces applied by the engine valve gear. The compactness permits addition of a roller follower without requiring increase in overall tappet size.
