Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the production of phthalic anhydride to a specification, using a distillative purification of crude phthalic anhydride, by introduction of crude phthalic anhydride into a distillation column, operating at reduced pressure, withdrawal of the low-boiling fraction from the head, or near the head of the column and withdrawal of the phthalic anhydride, which meets the specification, from a side-tap on the column, whilst operating the column at a reflux ratio x, with 1:1.7

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing esters of an acid component chosen from the multibasic C4-C10-carboxylic acids and an alcohol component chosen from C3-C12-alkanols or -alkanediols whose alkyl chain can be interrupted by 1 to 3 oxygen atoms. Sad method comprises the following steps : a) a mixture consisting essentially of the acid component or an anhydride thereof and the alcohol component is heated to boiling in a reaction zone in the presence of an esterification catalyst; b) the vapours containing alcoho l and water are separated into a fragment that is rich in alcohol and a fragme nt that is rich in water by rectification; and c) the alcohol-rich fraction is fed back into the reaction zone, while the water-rich fraction is extracted from the process. The inventive method is simple to carry out and allows the rapid adjustment of an essentially quantitative conversion.
Abstract:
Polyester is produced by reaction of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, neopentyl glycol, at least one other diol, and a nonanol mixture comprising mainly 1-nonanol, monomethyloctanols, dimethylheptanols and monoethylheptanols. An Independent claim is also included for the nonanol mixture.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing blends of phthalic acid diesters, decanols and tridecanols, according to which phthalic acid or a reactive derivative thereof is reacted with a mixture of at least one decano l and at least one tridecanol. The invention also relates to blends obtained a s above, to their use as plasticizers for moulding compounds and to mixtures o f isomeric tridecanols that are suitable for producing said blends.
Abstract:
Preparing mixtures (A) of diesters (I) of phthalic acid (PA) with decanols (IIa) and tridecanols (IIb) by reacting PA, or its reactive derivatives, with a mixture of at least one each of (IIa) and (IIb).
Abstract:
The mixture described is a mixture of isomeric nonanol diesters of a dicarboxylic acid, selected from the class consisting of a mixture of diesters of adipic acid in the 1H NMR spectrum of which, observed in CDCl3, the ratio of the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 1.0 to 2.0 ppm with respect to TMS to the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 0.5 to 1.0 ppm with respect to TMS is from 1.20 to 5.00 and a mixture of diesters of phthalic acid, in the 1H NMR spectrum of which, observed in CDCl3, the ratio of the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 1.1 to 3.0 ppm with respect to TMS to the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 0.5 to 1.1 ppm with respect to TMS is from 1.00 to 4.00.The diesters of adipic and phthalic acid are suitable as plasticizers for PVC-based molding compositions and have high compatibility, a low cold crack temperature, low torsional rigidity and/or high thermal stability.
Abstract:
PREPARATION OF 2-METHOXYALKANOIC ACIDS A process for the preparation of a 2-methoxy-alkanoic acid of 2 to 5 carbon atoms by oxidizing the corresponding 2-methoxyalkanol with nitric acid in the presence of vanadate ions as the catalyst, at below 90.degree.C, and isolating the 2-methoxyalkanoic acid by distillation.
Abstract:
Alkylcarboxylic acids CnH2n+1COOH (I) where n is from 2 to 18 are manufactured by hydroformylation of olefins CnH2n with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of rhodium catalysts at from 80 to 200.degree.C and from 80 to 600 bars, followed by oxidation of the aldehydes, first obtained, with oxygen or oxygen-containing gases, using a method wherein the reaction mixture resulting from the hydroformylation is directly subjected to the oxidative treatment, the carboxylic acids are distilled from the mixture thus obtained and the lowvolatility distillation residue, containing rhodium, is recycled, without additional treatment, to the hydroformylation stage.
