Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying triethylenediamine(TEDA) by evaporating TEDA, transferring the gas state TEDA into a liquid solvent and then continuously crystallizing from the solvent, enabling the re-circulation of at least a part of the used solvent into the purification method and also increasing the yield of the TEDA. SOLUTION: This method for purifying the TEDA is provided by extraction- treating a mother liquor obtained after the crystallization of the TEDA by using an extraction agent which is incompatible or slightly compatible with the solvent of the mother liquor and in which the TEDA is easily dissolvable, and returning the mother liquor poor in the TEDA obtained after the extraction and/or the extraction agent rich in the TEDA and used for the extraction to the purification method.

Abstract: Purification of triethylene diamine (TEDA) comprises crystallization and extraction of the resulting mother liquor with an extraction agent that is at most only slightly miscible with the solvent of the mother liquor but in which TEDA is soluble. Following extraction, the treated mother liquor with reduced TEDA content and/or the extraction agent enriched in TEDA is recycled to the process. A process for the purification of triethylene diamine (TEDA) by evaporation and feeding the TEDA vapor to a liquid solvent followed by crystallization is characterized in that following crystallization of the TEDA the resulting mother liquor is extracted with an extraction agent that is at most only slightly miscible with the solvent of the mother liquor but in which TEDA is soluble. Following extraction, the treated mother liquor with reduced TEDA content and/or the extraction agent enriched in TEDA is recycled to the process.

Abstract: The novel compounds of the general formula I having nonlinear optical properties in which the variables have the following meaning: X is a straight-chain or branched alkanediyl radical having 1 to 20 C atoms or X is a straight-chain or branched alkanediyl radical having 2 to 20 C atoms, the carbon chain of which is interrupted by -O-, -S- and/or -NR-; R is a hydrogen atom, a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical having 1 to 6 C atoms or a cycloalkyl radical, Y is a non-centrosymmetrical radical containing an easily polarisable conjugated pi -electron system and at least one terminal electron acceptor group; are outstandingly suitable as nonlinear optical materials for nonlinear optical arrangements and for the preparation of polymers having nonlinear optical properties. In particular, they are used for the preparation of organopolysiloxanes having nonlinear optical properties and which contain side groups of the general formula Ia in which the variables have the abovementioned meaning. These novel organopolysiloxanes having nonlinear optical properties are in turn outstandingly suitable for the preparation of Langmuir-Blodgett films.
