    Abstract: Hexamethylene diisocyanate and/or isomeric alkylene diisocyanates having 6 carbon atoms in the alkylene radical, preferably 2-methylpentamethylene 1,5-diisocyanate and/or 2-ethyltetramethylene 1,4-diisocyanate are prepared without the use of phosgene in a multiple-step process by means of (a) reacting hexamethylene 1,6-diamine and/or isomeric alkylene diamines having 6 carbon atoms in the alkylene radical with urea and alcohol in the presence of dialkyl carbonate and/or carbamic acid alkyl ester as well as, in some cases, catalysts to form hexamethylene 1,6-dialkylurethane and/or isomeric alkylene dialkylurethanes having 6 carbon atoms in the alkylene radical, (b) separation and return to reaction step (a) of alcohol, dialkyl carbonate, and/or carbamic acid alkyl ester from the reaction mixture (c) evaporation of the hexamethylene 1,6-dialkylurethane and/or isomeric alkylene dialkylurethanes having 6 carbon atoms in the alkylene radical, (d) cleavage of the vaporized diurethanes into hexamethylene diisocyanate and/or isomeric alkylene diisocyanate having 6 carbon atoms in the alkylene radical and alcohol, and (e) fractional condensation of the cleavage products.

    Abstract: A process for reaction control in the preparation of polyisobutylene by polymerisation of isobutylene at temperatures from -130 DEG to 0 DEG C in the presence of from 0.01 to 1.0% by weight of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, from 0.0001 to 0.1% by weight of a molecular weight regulator and a low-boiling solvent which is inert under the reaction conditions, where the % by weight are each based on the isobutylene employed, in which the solvent evaporated during the polymerisation is drawn off continuously, liquefied and recycled in the liquid state into the polymerisation zone, characterised in that the molecular weight regulators used are vinyl ethers. The vinyl ether used in the process acts both as accelerator and retarder of the cationic polymerisation.

    Abstract: Polyisobutylene and blends of polyisobutylene and at least one thermoplastic compatible therewith are highly suitable for the disposal of pollutant-containing solids and/or dusts. For this purpose, the solids and dusts in question are mixed with polyisobutylene or the blends, after which the resultant mixtures are advantageously further converted into granules or mouldings. Both the mixtures and the granules and mouldings are water-resistant, so that they can be ultimately landfilled without reservations.
