    Abstract: The following compounds are new. A1-CO-OR4 (Ia); A4-CO-NR12R13 (XV); G-CO-NR16R17 (XXI); A3-CO-R8 (VIIIa); and alkoxylated fatty acid derivatives (VII) obtained by reacting a fatty acid derivative of formula A2-CO-R5 (VIII) with 3-15 equivalents alkylene oxide (XXX) per equivalent of group (ix) in (VIII). (XXX) is ethylene oxide, propylene oxide or butylene oxide. Also claimed are 1) use of fatty acids derivatives of formula A1-CO-R1 (I) as surfactants in compositions for cleaning fat-soiled non-textile materials; 2) epoxidised fatty acid amides of formula B3-CO-NR121R13 (XVII) as intermediates for surfactants; 3) mixtures of fatty acids derivatives of formula A41-CO-NR16R17 (XVIII) and E-CO-NR16R17 (XIX) in weight ratio 99:1-1:99; and 4) washing and cleaning compositions containing (VII), (VIIIa) or (XXI), and other additives. A1 = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group containing one or more groups of formula -CH(NR2R3)-CH(OH)- (ii); A2 = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group containing one or more groups of formula -CH(NR6R7)-CH(OH)- (ix); A3 = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group containing one or more groups of formula -CH(NR9R10)-CH(OH)- (ix); A4 = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group containing one or more groups of formula -CH(NR14R15)-CH(OH)- (xvi); B3 = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group carrying one or more epoxy groups; A41 = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group containing one or more groups of formula -CH(NR121R141)-CH(OH)- (ii); E = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group containing one or more groups of formula -CH(OR18)-CH(OH)- (xx); G = 8-24C unbranched aliphatic group containing one or more groups of formula -CH(OR19)-CH(OH)- (xxi); R1 = N(R2)R3, OH or its alkali or ammonium salt, 1-4C alkoxy, or a residue of a mono-, di- or tri-glyceride, (where the two latter residues may be from natural fatty acids or the same or different A1 residues); R2 = 2-40C hydrophilic group; R3 = H, 1-4C alkyl or R2; R4 = H or alkali or ammonium cation; R5 = N(R6)R7, OH or its alkali or ammonium salt, 1-4C alkoxy, or a residue of a mono-, di- or tri-glyceride, (where the two latter residues may be from natural fatty acids or the same or different A2 residues); R6, R7 = H, 1-6C alkyl, or 1-14 C alkyl (substituted by OH, NH2 and/or CONH2 and/or interrupted by non-adjacent O, NH or N(1-4C)alkyl, and/or COOH or SO3H, or their alkali- or ammonium-salts); R8 = N(R6)R7, OH or its alkali or ammonium salt, 1-4C alkoxy, or a residue of a mono-, di- or tri-glyceride, (where the two latter residues may be from natural fatty acids or the same or different A3 residues); R9 = 1-6C alkyl (optionally substituted by OH, NH2 and/or CONH2 and/or interrupted by non-adjacent NH, and substituted by one SO3H or at least one COOH, or their alkali- or ammonium-salts); R10 = H, or a group as for R9; R12 = hydroxy- and/or amino- substituted 2-40C hydrophilic group; R13 = H, 1-4C alkyl or as for R12; R14 = 1-14C alkyl carrying COOH and/or SO3H groups as free acids and/or as alkali or ammonium salts, and optionally interrupted by non-adjacent O, NH and/or N-(1-4C)alkyl groups; R15 = H, 1-6C alkyl or as for R14; R121, R17 = as for R12 or R14; R141, R17 = H, 1-6C alkyl or as for R12; R18 = 1-4C alkyl; R19 = H or 1-4C alkyl.

    Abstract: The invention relates to alcohol alcoxylates of general formula (I) R -O-(CH2-CHR -O-)r(CH2-CH2-O-)n(CH2-CHR -O-)s(CH2-CHR -O-)mH, wherein R represents at least a mono-branched C4-22 alkyl, R represents C3-4 alkyl, R represents C1-4 alkyl, R represents methyl or ethyl, n represents a mean value of between 1 and 50, m represents a mean value of between 0 and 20, r represents a mean value of between 0 and 50, s represents a mean value of between 0 and 50, whereby m is at least 0.5, if R is methyl or ethyl, or if r has the value 0; or to alcohol alcoxylates of general formula (II) R -O-(CH2-CH2-O-)p(CH2-CHR -O-)qH, wherein R represents a branched or unbranched C4-22 alkyl, R represents C3-4 alkyl, p represents a mean value between 1 and 50 and q represents a mean value of between 0.5 and 20. Said alcohol alcoxylates are used as low-foam, or foam-inhibiting surfactants.
