Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the production of a polymer deposit in a circulating gas line and carry out the continuous vapor-phase polymerization by polymerizing a mixture of ethylene and/or propene with a specific olefin under specific conditions. SOLUTION: A catalyst poison having a higher boiling point than the maximum temperature in a circulating gas line in an amount so as not to cause a great loss in the productivity of the catalyst in a vapor-phase polymerization reactor is metered and fed to the circulating gas line when carrying out the continuous vapor phase polymerization of a mixture of ethylene and/or propene with a C3 -C8 -α-monoolefin in the presence of a catalyst in the vapor phase in a finely dispersed polymeric bed in the vapor-phase polymerization reactor under conditions of 30-125 deg.C and 1-100 bar while removing heat of polymerization by circulating a reactor gas. One or more kinds of compounds having a functional group selected from NR2 , NR, OR, O, =O, OS, S and =S (R is H or a 1-8C alkyl) are preferably used as the catalyst poison.

Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous gas phase fluidization method for producing ethylene homopolymerisates and copolymerisates with a density (d) of 0.87 to 0.97 g/cm3. According to said method, ethylene or mixtures of ethylene and C3- to C8-.alpha.-monoolefins are (co)polymerised in the polymerisation zone of a gas phase fluidized bed reactor at pressures of 1 to 100 bar and at temperatures of 30 to 125 ~C in the gas phase in an intermixed bed of fine particulate polymerisate in the presence of a supported chromium catalyst. The polymerisation heat produced is evacuated by cooling the reactor gas, said reactor gas being guided in a closed circuit, and the resulting (co)polymerisate is transferred out of the gas phase fluidized bed reactor. In order to produce a (co)polymerisate of a pre-selected density (d), the (co)polymerisation is carried out at a temperature within a range limited by an upper envelope of equation (I) and a lower envelope of equation (II), the variables in said equations having the following meanings: TH = the highest reaction temperature in ~C; TN = the lowest reaction temperature in ~C; and d'= the numerical value of the density (d) of the (co)polymerisate to be produced.

Abstract: A continuous vapor-phase fluidized-bed process for the preparation of ethylene homopolymers and copolymers having a density of from 0.87 to 0.97 g/cm in which ethylene or mixtures of ethylene and C3-C8 a-monoolefins are (co)polymerized in the presence of a supported chromium catalyst in the polymerization zone of a vapor-phase fluidized-bed reactor under pressures ranging from 1 to 100 bar and at temperatures ranging from 30° to 125° C. in the vapor phase in an agitated bed of bulk material comprising particulate polymer, the resultant heat of polymerization is removed by cooling the recirculated reactor gas and the resulting (co)polymer is removed from the vapor-phase fluidized-bed reactor, wherein, for the preparation of a (co)polymer of a specific density d, the (co)polymerization is carried out at a temperature which is in a range restricted by an upper envelope defined by equation Iand a lower envelope defined by equation IIin which the variables have the following meanings:TH is the highest reaction temperature in ° C.;TL is the lowest reaction temperature in ° C.;d' is the numerical value of the density d of the (co)polymer to be synthesized.

Abstract: A transition metal catalyst component (1) for Ziegler catalyst systems is prepared by (1.1) first combining (1.1.1) an inorganic oxidic substance (I), as the carrier, with (1.1.2) a solution (II) consisting of (IIa) an organic solvent and (IIb) a transition metal composition to form a suspension (III), evaporating down this suspension to form a solid-phase intermediate (IV) and (1.2) then combining (1.2.1) the solid-phase intermediate (IV) obtained from (1.1) with (1.2.2) a solution of an organoaluminum compound (V) to form a suspension, the resulting suspended solid-phase products (VI) being the transition metal catalyst component (1). The characteristic feature is that the solution (II) employed in stage (1.1) consists of (IIa) a certain oxahydrocarbon and (IIb) a mixture of (IIb1) a vanadium trichloride/alcohol complex, (IIb2) a titanium trihalide and (IIb3) a zirconium tetrahalide.
