    Abstract: A metal complex, prepared from a metal precursor comprising a Group 6-10 element in an oxidation state of 0 or +2 and a monoaryl-phosphinophenoalate ligand is claimed. A metal complex (I), prepared from a metal precursor comprising a Group 6-10 element in an oxidation state of 0 or +2 and a ligand of formula (1), is claimed. Independent claims are included for : (i) a catalyst for the polymerization of 1-olefins comprising the complex (I) immobilized on a solid support; (ii) a process for the polymerization of 1-olefins in the presence of the complex (I) at 10-250 deg C and 1-1000 bar; and (iii) the resulting polymer and molding composition containing the polymer for the production of film, sheet, fibers or hollow articles. R -R = H, 1-12C alkyl or 3-12C cycloalkyl, optionally substituted by 1-12C alkyl, halogen, 1-12C alkoxy or 1-12C thioether, 6-14C aryl optionally substituted by 1-12C alkyl, halogen, 1-12C haloalkyl, 1-12C alkoxy, siloxy OSiR R R , amine NR R 0 or 1-12C thioether 1-12C alkoxy, 6-14C aryloxy, whereby two neighboring R -R group may form a 5-8 membered ring; R -R = H, 1-6C alkyl or 6-14C aryl; R , R 0 = H, 1-6C alkyl, 6-14C aryl or together form a 5-10 membered ring; R = H or 6-14C aryl, optionally substituted by 1-12C alkyl, halogen, 1-12C haloalkyl, 1-12C alkoxy, siloxy OSiR R R , amine NR R 0 or 1-12C thioether; X = O, S, Se, NR , PR or AsR ; Y = H or SiR R R
