Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the homogeneous catalytic production, starting from ethene, of highly branched amorphous polyolefins which have an elastomeric characteristic profile. In a first step of said method a) ethene is oligomerized in the presence of a transition metal compound of general formula (I), whereby R and R represent C4 to C16 heteroaryl or C6 to C16 aryl with hydrogen substituents in both vicinal or ortho positions in relation to the binding site between the aryl or heteroaryl and N or N and is optionally oligomerized in the presence of a co-catalyst in an inert solvent. In a further step b), a transition metal compound of general formula (II) is added to the oligomerization mixture produced according to step a) and the reaction is continued in the presence of ethene. In a subsequent step c), the polymer product obtained is isolated.

The monomers are reacted with shielded aromatic monohydroxy compounds having sterically hindered groups or with a N-oxyl radical having sterically hindered groups in the presence of a transition metal compound of formula (Ia) or (Ib). R -R = H, 1-10C alkyl, 1-10C partially or perhalogenated alkyl, 3-10C cycloalkyl, 6-14C aryl, with functional groups based on Group IVA, VA, VIA, and VIIA elements, partially or persubstituted 1-14C aryl or 4-13C heteroaryl; X = alkylaryl, with 1-10C in alkyl and 6-14C in aryl residues, or Si(R )3, where R and R are not H. Impact toughness modified polymer mixtures containing, obtained from sulfur dioxide (a1), vinyl aromatic compounds (a2), unsaturated polar compounds (a31), selected from compounds of formula (I): R = H or Me, R = CN, CHO, or COOR ; R = H or 1-20C alkyl, and/or cyclic olefins with unconjugated double bonds (a32), or nonpolar acyclic aliphatic olefin (a33) structured (sic) copolymerizate (component A), and at least one polymeric rubber compound with an elastomer property profile (component B), and optionally a thermoplastic polymer (component C), and processing aids, colorants, stabilizers, antioxidants, or strengthening materials (component D). An Independent claim is included for preparation of the polymer mixtures by mixing components (A) and (B) and optionally components (C) and (D) without previous melting, and melting and homogenization of the mixture obtained or mixing and melting of the components at increased temperature, and isolation of the product.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing graft copolymers, containing an elastic copolymer backbone. In a first stage of said method, a) ethene, as the principal monomer, is copolymerised co-ordinatively with an alpha -olefin which is substituted with an alkoxyamine group as the additional comonomer in the presence of a transition metal compound which has been complexed using a bisimin chelate ligand, into an elastomeric graft copolymer backbone. In a second stage b) the copolymer produced in a) is reacted under controlled radical polymerisation conditions in the presence of monomers, selected from the group of vinyl aromatic compounds, vinyl heteroaromatic or vinyl heteroalicyclic compounds, alkyl esters, and amides of (meth)acryl acid, acryl nitrile, methacryl nitrile, maleimide or vinyl ferrocene and optionally also reacted in the presence of conjugated organic dienes, involving the formation of covalently linked graft branches. In a further stage c) the graft copolymer obtained in b) is either directly isolated, or the alkoxyamine groups which terminate the graft polymer lateral branches are first removed under reductive reaction conditions and the graft polymer thus obtained is subsequently isolated.
