Abstract: Catalyst system for catalytic gaseous phase reactions, having catalyst activity increases in flow direction of a gas, where the catalyst activity is steered by mixing low- and high active catalysts, is new. Independent claims are included for: (1) a preparation of phthalic acid anhydride comprising gaseous phase oxidation of xylene and/or naphthalene and oxygen gas in the catalyst system; (2) a preparation of ethylene dichloride comprising gaseous phase oxychlorination of ethylene with hydrochloric acid and air/oxygen in the catalyst system; (3) a preparation of cyclohexanone comprising gaseous phase dehydrogenation of cyclohexanol and hydrogen in the catalyst system; (4) a preparation of maleic acid anhydride comprising gaseous phase oxidation of benzol, butane or butene with oxygen in the catalyst system; and (5) a preparation of acrylic acid comprising gaseous phase oxidation of propene with vapor/air in the catalyst system to give an acrolein, and followed by oxidation of the acrolein with the catalyst system.

Abstract: Alkines, dienes, and/or singly unsaturated hydrocarbons; compounds containing sulphur, arsenic and/or antimony; oxygen, hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide are removed from material flows in a total of at most three process steps. In a first process step, after hydrogen has been added to the feed material flow at a hydrogenation catalyst which is largely resistant to compounds containing sulphur, arsenic and/or antimony, alkines, dienes and/or singly unsaturated hydrocarbons are removed by hydrogenation, oxygen which may optionally be present also being at least partially removed by hydrogenation. In a second process step, compounds containing sulphur, arsenic and/or antimony and/or residual oxygen from the first process step are removed by absorption on a contact mass, and/or residual oxygen, carbon monoxide and/or residual hydrogen are at least partially converted catalytically into water and carbon dioxide. Optionally, in a third process step, residual carbon monoxide and/or residual hydrogen from the preceding process steps is/are converted on a contact mass into carbon dioxide and/or water.

Abstract: A supported catalyst composition for the oxychlorination of ethylene comprises 3-12 wt.% copper as copper salt and 0.001-0.1 (0.005-0.05) wt.% of ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and/or platinum and/or 0.0001-0.1 (0.001-0.05) wt.% gold as the corresponding metal salt of tetrachloroauric acid. A catalyst composition (I) for the oxychlorination of ethylene comprises a mixture of metal salts on a support and consists of (wt. % with respect to total weight of the catalyst including support): (A) copper as copper salt (3-12); (B) an alkaline earth metal as a salt (0-3); (C) an alkali metal as a salt (0-3); and (D) ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and/or platinum (0.005-0.05) and/or gold as the corresponding metal salt of tetrachloroauric acid (0.001-0.05). An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of 1,2-dichloroethane by oxychlorination of ethylene using the catalyst composition (I).
