    Abstract: horny substances are removed from hides of dead animals by a process wherein the hides of dead animals are treated with at least one substance of the formula I or at least one corresponding alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium or phosphonium salt, where R 1 and R 4 are identical or different and are selected from hydrogen, C 6 -C 14 -aryl and C 1 -C 12 -alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted by one or more SH or OH groups, R 2 and R 3 are identical or different and are selected from hydrogen, C 6 -C 14 -aryl and C 1 -C 12 -alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted by one or more SH or OH groups, at least one radical R 2 or R 3 not being hydrogen or R 1 and R 4 not being hydrogen, and it being possible in each case for two vicinal radicals R 1 to R 4 together to be C 3 -C 10 -alkylene, R 5 is selected from hydrogen, C 1 -C 12 -alkyl, H-C-O or C 1 -C 4 -alkyl-C-O, X 1 , X 2 , X 3 and X 4 are selected from OH, SH and NHR 5 , where, if R 1 to R 4 contain at least one sulfur atom, at least one radical X 1 to X 4 is SH, and, if R 1 to R 4 contain no sulfur atom, at least two radicals X 1 to X 4 are SH.

    Abstract: Procedimiento para eliminar sustancias corneas de pieles de animales muertos, caracterizado porque se tratan las pieles de animales muertos con por lo menos una sustancia de la formula general (1), o por lo menos una sal de metales alcalinos, metales alcalinotérreos, de amonio o fosfonio, correspondiente, definiéndose las variables como sigue: R1, R4 son iguales o diferentes y seleccionados entre H, arilo C6-14 y alquilo C1-12, no sustituido o sustituido con uno o más grupos SH u OH; R2, R3 son iguales o diferentes y seleccionados entre H, arilo C6-14 y alquilo C1-12 no sustituido o sustituido con uno o más grupos SH u OH, en donde por lo menos un resto R2 o R3 es diferente de H o R1 y R4 son diferentes de H, y en donde en cada caso dos restos vecinos R1 a R4 pueden significar juntos alquileno; R5 es seleccionado entre H, alquilo C1-12, H-C=O o alquilo C1-4-C=O; X1, X2, X3 y X4 son seleccionados entre OH, SH y NHR5, en donde para el caso de que R1 a R4 contengan por lo menos un átomo de S, por lo menos uno de X1 a X4 significa SH, y para el caso de que R1 a R4 no contengan ningun átomo de S, por lo menos dos de X1 a X4 significan SH.
