Abstract:
Proposed is the use, as agents for increasing the dry strength of paper, card and cardboard, of partially hydrolysed polymers of N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides obtained by the homopolymerization of N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides of the formula (I) in which R and R are H or C1-C6 alkyl and by splitting off 0.5 to 95 mole % of the groups of the formula (II) in which R is H or C1-C6 alkyl.
Abstract:
Polymers containing .beta.-hydroxyalkylvinylamine units, which are obtainable by reacting polymers containing vinylamine units with epoxides of the formula (see formula I) where R = C2-C28-alkyl, phenyl, C1-C18-alkylphenyl or C2-C18-alkenyl, are described, as are a process for preparing the polymers and use of the polymers as retention and drainage aids and flocculants and as fixatives in paper making, as protective colloid for producing alkyldiketene dispersions or alkenylsuccinic anhydride dispersions, as emulsifier for producing aqueous filler suspensions and as corrosion inhibitor.
