Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for the hydroformylation of a compound having at least ethylenically unsaturated double bond. SOLUTION: The hydroformylation method uses at least one kind of a complex of a metal of VIII sub-group having at least one kind of a phosphorus- containing compound, which has two groups each having one P atom bonded to the respective phenyl rings of a molecular skeleton derived from bisphenol A, as a ligand.

The invention relates to a method for the hydroformylation of ethylenically unsaturated compounds, whereby at least one complex of a metal of subgroup VIII is used as the hydroformylation catalyst, having at least one compound containing phosphorus, arsenic, or antimony as a ligand. Each compound comprises two groups having a P, As, or Sb atom and at least two other heteroatoms, said groups being bound to a xanthene-type molecular structure. The invention also relates to novel compounds of this type and catalysts comprising at least one complex of a metal of subgroup VIII having at least one such compound as a ligand.

In a process for the hydroformylation of ethylenically unsaturated compounds, at least one complex of a metal of transition group VIII. with at least one phosphorus-, arsenic- or antimony-containing compound as ligand is used as hydroformylation catalyst, where the compound used as ligand in each case comprises two groups which comprise a P, As or Sb atom and at least two further hetero atoms and are bound to a xanthene-like molecular framework. New compounds of this type and catalysts which comprise at least one complex of a metal of transition group VIII. with at least one such compound as ligand are also provided.

Production of adiponitrile from butadiene and hydrogen cyanide uses a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal complex having at least one tricyclic bifunctional phosphorus, arsenic or antimony ligand. Production of adiponitrile by: (a) reacting butadiene with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of a catalyst, (b) optionally catalytically isomerizing the resulting mixture of pentenonitriles to covert branched nitriles to linear nitriles, and (c) reacting the nitrile mixture with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of a catalyst comprises performing steps (a), (b) and/or (c) in the presence of a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal complex having at least one ligand of formula (I). Disclosed are pnicogen ligand compounds of the formula I which have two pnicogen-containing groups joined to one another via a xanthene-like or triptycene-like molecular skeleton and in which at least one pyrrole group is covalently bound via its nitrogen atom to each pnicogen atom form complexes with metals of transition group VIII. These compounds are useful as catalysts for the hydroformylation of olefins. (see formula I)

At least one pyrrole group is covalently bound via its nitrogen atom to each pnicogen atom. The invention also relates to catalysts consisting of a complex of a metal from subgroup VIII with at least one pnicogen compound serving as a ligand, and to a method for hydroformylating olefins.
