    Abstract: Fibrous substrates are treated with (a) at least one oligomer of branched or straight-chain C 3 -C 10 -alkene having an average molecular weight M n of up to 1200 g/mol, (b) at least one emulsifier which is obtainable by copolymerization of (A) at least one ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride, derived from at least one dicarboxylic acid of 4 to 8 carbon atoms, (B) at least one oligomer of branched or straight-chain C 3 -C 10 -alkene, at least one oligomer having an average molecular weight M n of up to 1200 g/mol, (C) at least one alpha-olefin of up to 16 carbon atoms and (D) optionally at least one ethylenically unsaturated comonomer, and optionally reaction with (E) at least one compound of the formula I a, I b, I c or I d and, if appropriate, subsequent contact with water, where, in formulae I a to I d, A 1 are identical or different C 2 -C 20 -alkylene, R 1 is linear or branched C 1 -C 30 -alkyl, phenyl or hydrogen, and n is an integer from 1 to 200.

    Abstract: Producing aqueous copolymer dispersions with a water content of 30-99.5 wt.% comprises radical copolymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride having 4-8 carbon atoms, an oligomer of an alkene having 3-10 carbon atoms and optionally an ethylenically unsaturated comonomer, optionally reacting the product with an alkoxylated alcohol (Ia) or alkoxylated amine (Ib), and adding water. Producing aqueous copolymer dispersions with a water content of 30-99.5 wt.% comprises radical copolymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride having 4-8 carbon atoms, an oligomer of an alkene having 3-10 carbon atoms, where the oligomer has a molecular weight of 300-5000 or is produced by oligomerising at least 3 equivalents of the alkene, and optionally an ethylenically unsaturated comonomer, optionally reacting the product with an alkoxylated alcohol of formula (Ia) or alkoxylated amine of formula (Ib), and adding water. HO(A 1>O) nR 1> (Ia) H 2N(A 1>O) nR 1> (Ib) A 1>2-20C alkylene; R 1>1-30C alkyl, phenyl or H; n : 1-200. Independent claims are also included for: (1) aqueous copolymer dispersions produced as above; (2) treatment of fibrous substrates using the dispersions; (3) fibrous substrates treated as above; (4) copolymers produced by radical copolymerization of an anhydride, oligomer and optional comonomer as above, reaction with (Ia) or (Ib) and optional hydrolysis; (5) impregnating flat substrates with dispersions or copolymers as above.

    Abstract: Curtientes obtenidos por reacción de por lo menos un aldehído de la fórmula general (1), con por lo menos otro aldehído idéntico o diferente de la fórmula (1), en donde las variables tienen las definiciones siguientes: Z significa un enlace químico simple, alquileno C1-12, cicloalquileno C5-12 o arileno C6-14, eventualmente sustituidos, realizándose la reacción en presencia de un catalizador ácido y opcionalmente en presencia de por lo menos otro compuesto carbonilo de la fórmula (2), en donde R1 a R4 significan, independientemente, hidrógeno, alquilo C1-12, cicloalquilo C3-12, aralquilo C7-13 o arilo C6-14, eventualmente sustituidos, siendo preciso, que cuando Z significa un enlace simple o un radical sin átomos de alfa-hidrógeno, esté presente por lo menos otro aldehído de la fórmula (1) en el que el radical Z contenga átomos de alfa-hidrógeno o por lo menos otro compuesto de carbonilo de la fórmula (2). Procedimiento para la obtención de estos curtientes, su uso como agentes de conversación, especialmente, para la precurtición, curtición y recurtición de pieles animales, y un procedimiento para la precurtición, curtición o recurtición de pieles animales mediante dichos curtientes. Sustancia activa pulverulenta, que contiene uno o varios de dichos curtientes, procedimiento para la obtención de esta sustancia activa pulverulenta y uso de la misma como agente de conversación y cueros obtenidos usando los curtientes o aplicando el procedimiento descripto.

    Abstract: A process for preparing a solution of sulfone-containing tanning materials comprises a) preparing a component A by a1) reacting phenol with concentrated sulfuric acid, with oleum of an SO 3 content of from 20 to 65% by weight or with a mixture of sulfuric acid and oleum of an SO 3 content of from 20 to 65% by weight, the molar ratio of total sulfuric acid, reckoned as SO 3 , to phenol being in the range from 0.7:1 to 1.5:1, at from 100 to 180° C. to form a mixture containing phenolsulfonic acid, dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone and sulfuric acid, or mixing the individual components to prepare a corresponding mixture, a2) then condensing said mixture with from 0.25 to 4 mol of urea and with from 0.5 to 4 mol of an aliphatic aldehyde of 1 to 6 carbon atoms per mole of phenol units present at from 40 to 90° C., a3) optionally adding a base to set a pH of from 4 to 5, b) preparing a component B by b1) reacting dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone with from 0.5 to 5 mol of an aliphatic aldehyde of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and with from 0.4 to 2 mol of sodium sulfite per mole of dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone at from 90 to 180° C., b2) optionally adding an acid to set a pH of from 3.5 to 5.5, c) mixing from 10 to 90% by weight of component A with from 90 to 10% by weight of component B, the sum total of A and B being 100% by weight, and, unless already effected in steps a3) and b2), setting the pH of the mixture to a value in the range from 3.5 to 5.5.
