Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of certain ethers as activity-enhancers for water-soluble biocides in homopolar hydrocarbons. The invention also relates to the use of at least one water-soluble biocide combined with at least one of said ethers for controlling micro-organisms and/or for reducing or preventing the multiplication of micro-organisms in essentially water-immiscible hydrocarbons. The invention also relates to additive compositions and hydrocarbon compositions comprising such ethers and biocides, and to a method for controlling micro-organisms and/or for reducing or preventing the multiplication of micro-organisms in hydrocarbons, according to which such a biocide and at least such an ether are added to the hydrocarbon.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a copolymer having high chemical uniformity, made of (A) 50 to 30 wt % of ethylene, (B) 50 to 70 wt % of C4- to C24-hydrocarbylester of (meth)acrylic acid, (C) 0 to 5 wt % of (meth)acrylic acid, and (D) 0 to 10 wt % of copolymerizable monomers that can be obtained by the polymerization of a mixture of 80 to 60 wt % of ethylene, 20 to 40 wt % of (meth)acrylic acid, and 0 to 10 wt % of copolymerizable monomers in a back mixing, continuously operating polymerization apparatus, and the subsequent polymeric analogous esterification of the copolymer thus obtained with C4- to C24-hydrocarbinols. The copolymer according to the invention is suitable for improving the cold flow properties of fuel oils, for reducing the lower mixing temperature of cold flow improving additives in fuel oils, and for improving the filterability of fuel oils containing cold flow improving additives.
Abstract:
Terpolymer made of (A) ethylene, (B) (i) C2- to C14-alkenyl esters of one or more aliphatic C1- to C20-monocarboxylic acids or (ii) C1- to C24-alkyl esters of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and (C) olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbons selected from (iii) 5- to 7-membered cycloalkenes and (iv) a-olefins having from 6 to 20 carbon atoms. The said terpolymer is suitable as low-temperature flow improver in middle-distillate fuels. It lowers the minimum temperature at which low-temperature flow improver additives can be mixed into middle-distillate fuels, and improves the filterability of middle-distillate fuels comprising low-temperature flow improver additives.

The mixture is suitable as a paraffin dispersant in fuels, especially those having a biodiesel content.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a copolymer obtainable by copolymerizing (A) at least one unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or the derivatives thereof, (B) at least one a-olefin comprising 6 to 20 carbon atoms, (C) at least one C3- to C20-alkyl ester of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid or a mixture of such alkyl esters, and (D), optionally, one or more additional copolymerizable monomers different from monomers (A), (B) and (C), whereupon at least one dialkylamine (E) is converted, the two alkyl groups of the at least one dialkylamine (E) independently being alkyl groups having 17 to 30 carbon atoms. The invention further relates to a method for synthesizing a copolymer and to the use thereof, inter alia, for reducing crystallization of paraffin crystals in fuels.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of polymers, comprising the following polymerised groups: an .alpha.-olefin, at least one alkenyl ester and at least one ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid with higher alcohols, as additive for fuels and lubricants and in particularly as cold flow improver in fuel oils, fuels and lubricants with said additives and additive packets containing such copolymers. The invention further relates to copolymers in which the above monomers are polymerised.

Abstract:
The use is described of polymers which contain, in copolymerized form, an α-olefin, a vinyl ester and an ester of an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid as an additive for fuel oils and lubricants and in particular as a cold flow improver in fuel oils. In addition, the fuel oils and lubricants additized with these polymers; and also additive packages comprising such polymers are described.
