Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a unique house-use adaptor supported by services rendered by an exclusive server/gateway for a board band network and their networks by attaining path designation of a telephone service between a telephone set and a PSTN or the broad band network and path designation of a data communication service between a computer and a network. SOLUTION: An adaptor 22, connected to a house computer 20 supports call processing of one telephone set or between a plurality of telephone sets 27, via a cable network 21 or a local exchange center(LEC) 28 in cooperation with the computer 20. On the occurrence of a power supply failure, an adaptor 22 connects the telephone set 27 to the LEC 28 as a default connection. Furthermore, an incoming call to the telephone set 27 and an outgoing call from the telephone set 27 receives selective path designation under the condition set by a logic value in the inside of the adaptor 22 to the LEC 28 or the cable network 21 as a function of various conditions.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a device to control wide variety of services by allowing PSTN users to make communication with a call management resource via a network at the outside of a public switched telephone network PSTN and a device adaptive to communication with the call management resource. SOLUTION: A customer's computer 30 directly communicates with a system 31 that is a TAI component of a telephone station and of a PSTN via a public data network 32 at the outside of the PSTN and servers 33, 34 managed by the PSTN. The server 33 is a data server linking to an external data network. The server 34 acts as a firewall server that protects the system 31 being a service management system of a telephone company against an illegal access from an unauthenticated person and that interacts with the server 33. The arbitration by a service personnel in charge is eliminated by a function of a component in the system 31, and a customer executes a desired revision of a service or a function with a computer and a web 32 via the servers 33, 34.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided to translate the contents of access registers into information for use in performing addressing functions for multiple virtual address spaces. The access registers represent the full addressing capability of the system but do not directly contain the addressing information. The system has a plurality of general purpose registers (20), a plurality of access registers (22) associated with the general registers, an access list (24,25) having access list entries which is addressed by the contents of the access register, memory storage (30) for holding address space number second table entries (ASTE) (98), where the contents of the access list entry locate the ASTE and where the ASTE contains the addressing information needed to locate a virtual address when combined with the contents of a general register. Access register translation (ART) consists of the process of determining addressing information by using the access list entry and the ASTE. The system has available to it at any one time a selection of one of two domains each represented by an access list. One domain is related to the dispatchable unit task to be performed and the other is related to the address space in which a particular program operates. The ART process selects the domain which the access register is using.

Abstract: This invention allows customers and other users of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to enable, disable or modify special services provided by the net work. The PSTN is defined here as all equipment world wide (land-based, radio or other ) enabling ordinary telephone users to connect to other telephone users, but exclu des private telephone networks such as "tie line" systems maintained or leased by pr ivate enterprises. Presently contemplated actions can be taken independent of the sta te of the customer's telephone line (e.g. on-hook or off-hook), and usually involve use of equipment other than telephones and communication networks other than the PSTN (e.g. compu ters operating through the Internet and pagers operating through pager networks). Th e special services include existing services (call waiting, call blocking, call forwarding , etc.) and new ones (e.g. transferring an active call from a desk phone to a mobile cellular on e without interrupting the call). Security firewalls, between the public and telephony ap plication intelligence (TAI) systems that administer customer services within the PSTN, en sure that actions by unauthorized individuals do not interfere with or adversely affect te lephone system operations. Authorized customers taking presently contemplated actions w ill not be able to adversely affect telephone system operations. The present system wil l work on information maintained at any level of an intelligent network hierarchy within t he PSTN, including service nodes through which customer services are traditionally provid ed.

Abstract: A program authorization mechanism for authorizing access to an address space in the main memory of a computer system by a program being run under a multiple address space facility. An access-list entry is associated with each address space, each access-list entry being designated by an access-list-entry token contained in an access register. Each access-list entry includes a private indicator which indicates if the associated address space can be accessed by all programs from this access-list entry or if the associatd address space can only be accessed by an authorized program. For a program to be authorized, an extended authorization index in a control register must match an access-list extended authorization index in the access-list entry, or the extended authorization index value must be authorized in an authority table associated with the address space. An instruction for testing a given extended authorization index for a given access-list-entry is also disclosed.
