Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the manufacturing efficiency of a circular fluorescent lamp by getting along without using more than two kinds of bases by using a base the right and the left arcs of which divided by a line passing through the middle point between base pins have different lengths. CONSTITUTION:The right and the left arcs of a base 5 divided by a straight line extending from the center of the circle of a bulb 1 to the middle point between plural base pins 4 in the circular longitudinal direction of the bulb 1, have different lengths (l2) and (l1) respectively. The length (l2) of the left arc is longer than the length (l1) of the right arc by a length of (a). The projections 5a of the base 5 are fitted in constricted parts 1b formed on both end portions of the bulb 1 so as to position the base 5 relative to the circular longitudinal direction of the bulb 1 and to restrict the rotation of the bulb 1 in its circumference direction to within the range of 0-45 deg.. Owing to the above constitution, even when a great variation is caused in the length (l) between the ends of the bulb 1, there is no possibility that a gap is formed between the end of the bulb 1 and the end surface of the base 5.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable automation by catching the lower end of a heated and softened straight glass tube by means of a stop pin that ejects air from inside, detecting the change of air pressure by means of a sensor, and controlling the heating hour. CONSTITUTION:A stop pin 3 that sends air from an inlet port 5 is provided in a heating furnace 2 that forms a straight glass tube 1 in an annular shape. When the glass tube 1 is stretched by heating, the lower end is put adjacently on the top 4 of the stop pin 3. Besides, a pressure sensor 6 is connected to the center of the stop pin 3 through an outlet port 7. When the glass tube 1 is put adjacently on the top 4, the change of the pressure within the stop pin 3 is detected by means of the sensor 6 and the drive of the heating furnace 2 is controlled based on the signal. As a result, the elongation of the glass tube 1 can automatically be controlled independently of the changes of such as ambient temperature, furnace temperature, thickness of the glass tube and so on, and its quality can be improved and its labor saving can be attained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make uniform the thickness of a film a phosphor is coated with, to prevent color shading and to improve the external appearance by a method wherein, when a linear bulb is heated and softened while the bulb is held in the vertical direction, its elongation is equalized. CONSTITUTION:By forming a heat resistant radiation-reflecting film 2 having a melting point of 600 deg.C or over on the external surface in the end portion of a sealed linear bulb 1 along its axial direction, for instance, using white powder of a white phosphor and the like, the external surface in the end portion of the linear bulb 1 is coated with the radiation-reflecting film 2. Next the linear fluorescent lamp is placed in a heating furnace in such a way that the radiation- reflecting film 2 is located in the upper portion of the lamp, and the linear bulb 1 is heated and softened while it is being vertically held. After this, the bulb is formed into a tube and the radiation-reflecting film 2 is wiped to remove the film from the tubular bulb. Then bases and the like are attached to the tube through the usual method to complete a tubular fluorescent lamp.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent early generation of a black film on the inner surface of the glass bulb around the electrode so as to prevent the luminous flux of a circular fluorescent lamp from deteriorating during its initial lighting by introducing a gaseous mixture of an inactive gas and oxygen into the glass bulb after initial evacuation of the glass bulb. CONSTITUTION:After a straight glass bulb is evacuated to a vacuum of around 10 Torr while moving in a preliminary heating furnace, the temperature of the glass bulb is increased to above 600 deg.C and the initial impurity gas is discharged. At this point, a minute amount of oxygen is introduced into the glass bulb. Following that, the glass bulb is evacuated again and, when the vacuum of the glass bulb reaches around 10 Torr, the internal atmosphere of the glass bulb is replaced by an inactive gas such as nitrogen or argon gas. Due to the above evacuation treatment, after the straight bulb is shaped into a circular form, especially the cathode substance of the electrode filament is minimally contaminated by impurity gas and as the result the cathode substance is easily and completely activated by current feeding. It is advantageous that the content of oxygen in the gaseous mixture be within the range of 10-20%.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a projection conventionally provided in the end of the bulb unnecessary by forming at least one U-shaped protruding piece for restricting the rotation of bases on their inner surface and fitting said protruding piece in at least one of circular constricted parts formed on both end portions of the bulb. CONSTITUTION:At least one of bases 2 and 3 has a U-shaped protruding piece 7 for restricting the rotation of the base on its inner surface. Both end portions 1a and 1b of a bulb 1 have circular constricted parts 8. The base-rotation-restricting protruding piece 7 is attached to the constricted part 8 in such a manner that the piece 7 is fitted in the constricted part 8. When the bases 2 and 3 rotate, the protruding piece 7 moves in the direction indicated by arrow (c) until the side surface 7a of the piece 7 touches the sealing area 1c of the bulb 1 in such a manner as indicated by the dotted line thereby restricting the range of the rotation. As a result, it is not necessary to provide a projection inside the constricted area 8, thereby preventing any generation of cracks.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the anode vibration stably and prevent the irregular flicker of the light output by bending inner guide wires and locating a filament coil at the nondischarge side from the bent section. CONSTITUTION:Two stems 3 are hermetically sealed on both sides of a glass tube 1, and inner guide wires 4 made of nickel-plated iron wire are penetrated and fitted to this stem 3 electrically. A filament 5 is fitted to the end sections of the inner guide wires 4. Part of the inner guide wire 4 is bent, and the center axis of the filament coil 5 is apart from the bent section 6 to the nondischarge side. Accordingly, a fluorescent lamp having stable anode vibration and preventing the irregular flicker of the light output can be obtained.
