Abstract: Apparatus for interconnecting a component entertainment system including a bi-directional signal bus for interconnecting some of the components comprises a first switch unit having one input adapted to be coupled to the bi-directional signal bus, at least one other input adapted to be coupled to receive signal from a component not connected to the signal bus and a common output. A second switch unit has one input adapted to receive signal from the component not connected to the signal bus. A signal driver has its input coupled to the output of the second switch unit and its output coupled to the input of the first switch unit adapted to be coupled to the signal bus. The output impedance of the signal driver serves to terminate the signal bus in its characteristic impedance when the driver does not supply signal at its output.

Abstract: RCA 75,979 A system for processing the luminance component of a composite video signal in a television receiver is disclosed. The receiver includes a comb filter responsive to the video signal for providing first and second combed output signals from which luminance and chrominance components are respectively derived. A restored luminance signal, comprising signals from the first comb filter output and vertical detail information derived from the second comb filter output, is linearly processed by a network including a horizontal signal peaking circuit. A vertical detail component derived from the second comb filter output is non-linearly processed by a network which generates a vertical detail peaking component. The vertical peaking component is low-pass filtered and then combined with horizontally peaked luminance signals to produce a horizontally and vertically peaked luminance signal, which is afterwards applied to further luminance signal processing circuits of the receiver.

Abstract: RCA 72,464 In a color television receiver including a comb filter for separating luminance and chrominance components of a color television signal, a network is included for selectively restoring and enhancing vertical image detail to preserve and enhance vertical resolution in the luminance content of a displayed image. The comb filter provides a combed luminance signal output from which vertical detail signal information has been unavoidably deleted, and a combed chrominance signal output including signal frequency components representative of the deleted detail signal, which are selectively extracted from the combed chrominance signal. Low level detail signals are restored to the combed luminance signal via a first signal processing network with a prescribed restoration gain. The detail signal is also combined with the combed luminance signal via a second signal processing network which cores (removes) low level detail signals including noise, and enhances higher level detail signals through amplification to enhance vertical image definition. A resultant reconstituted luminance component manifests restored low level vertical detail information as well as enhanced higher level vertical detail information, without enhancing unwanted signal components such as noise.

Abstract: A burst gate pulse generating circuit includes a normally saturated transistor (60) responsive to a pulse (Vs) representative of a horizontal sync component of a video signal which includes a burst interval. The sync pulse is coupled to a base input of the transistor via an RC differentiating network (52, 56, 58) for causing the transistor to operate between saturated and cut-off states, such that a gate pulse (Vo) produced at the transistor collector output is delayed relative to the sync pulse and substantially coincides with the burst interval. The circuit is arranged so that the sync pulse as coupled via the differentiating network (52, 56, 58) causes the base-emitter junction of the transistor to break down in the reverse direction. The timing of the output gate pulse is therefore substantially independent of they sync pulse amplitude, which can vary undesirably, thereby promoting accurate pulse timing.

Abstract: A multiplier for multiplying the modulated sound and picture carriers to produce an intercarrier sound signal in a quasi-parallel sound channel of an IF section has a pair of anti-parallel connected diodes in a limiter for generating an amplitude limited version of the picture carrier. It has been discovered that the varying capacitance of the diodes with picture amplitude can cause phase shifts and hence phase modulation interference in the intercarrier signal. The latter is especially troublesome for stereo sound reproduction. To reduce such interference, a low value resistor is shunt coupled to the diodes to inhibit the capacitance variations of the diodes and resulting undesired phase modulation in the intercarrier sound signal.

Abstract: RCA 73,432 In a color television receiver including a comb filter for separating luminance and chrominance components of a color television signal, a network is included for enhancing vertical image detail to enhance vertical resolution in the luminance content of a displayed image. The comb filter provides a combed luminance signal output from which vertical detail signal information has been unavoidably deleted, and a combed chrominance signal output including signal frequency components representative of the deleted detail signal, which are selectively extracted from the combed chrominance signal. Low level detail signals are restored to the combed luminance signal via a first signal processing network which exhibits a prescribed signal restoration gain. The detail signal is also added to the combed luminance signal via a second network which cores (removes) low level detail signals including noise in a first operating mode, and amplifies higher level detail signals to enhance vertical image definition in a second mode. Rapid transitions from the coring to the enhancement mode are undesirably manifested in a displayed diagonal image as serrations along the edge of the diagonal line. The visible effects of the serrations are reduced to an acceptable minimum by low pass filtering the enhanced cored detail signal before being added to the combed luminance signal.

Abstract: RCA 73,994 A gain controllable circuit suitable for processing vertical detail signal information in a video signal is disclosed. The circuit exhibits a non-linear signal amplitude transfer function wherein different amounts of signal gain are imparted to signals having amplitudes within prescribed ranges. Small amplitude signals subject to restoration are translated with a prescribed restoration gain. Moderate amplitude signals subject to enhancement (peaking), and large amplitude signals subject to paring (amplitude reduction), are controllably amplified without altering the restoration gain characteristic for small signals.

Abstract: DC stabilization system for a color TV receiver includes three control loops, each including a keyed comparator for comparing a respectively different one of a set of blue, green and red color signals with a common reference voltage during keying periods determined by line rate keying of "backporch" timing pulses. The output of the keyed comparator responding to the blue signal adjusts the DC level of a luminance signal component used in color signal formation. The output of the keyed comparator responding to the red signal adjusts the DC level of an I color-difference signal component used for color signal formation. The output of the keyed comparator responding to the green signal adjusts the DC level of a Q color-difference signal used for color signal formation. The line rate keying pulse source is subject to field-rate blanking to preclude comparator keying during significant portion of received signal's vertical sync interval.

Abstract: RCA 73,993 An electrical circuit suitable for processing vertical detail signal information of a video signal is disclosed. The circuit includes an amplifier and an associated feedback impedance network for determining the circuit gain. Different values of feedback impedance are established in accordance with the operation of a signal responsive switching network included in the feedback network, to establish a signal amplitude transfer function wherein different amounts of signal gain are imparted to signals having amplitudes within prescribed ranges. Small amplitude signals subject to restoration are translated with a prescribed restoration gain. Moderate amplitude signals subject to enhancement (peaking) are translated by amplifying small amplitude excursions thereof with the restoration gain and by amplifying peak amplitude excursions with a gain greater than the restoration gain. Large amplitude signals subject to paring (amplitude reduction) are translated by amplifying small amplitude excursions thereof with the restoration gain, amplifying moderate amplitude excursions with a gain greater than the restoration gain, and amplifying peak amplitude excursions with a gain less than the restoration gain.
