    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a bar code scanner which has a wide operation range by arranging an optical element in the optical path between a laser light source and a scanning mirror. CONSTITUTION: This laser scanner is provided with the laser light source 20, e.g. a gas laser or semiconductor laser diode, an optical means which forms a diffraction pattern 25 having a center beam spot 26 with a specific diameter, and a scanning means which makes a scan with a modulated laser beam 14 across a symbol 15. The barrel part 11 of a housing has an exit window 13. The laser beam 14 exits through the window 13 to impinge on the symbol 15 placed outside the housing and scan it. The laser beam 14 moves across the symbol 15 to draw a scanning line 16. The scanning motion of this laser beam 14 is caused by an oscillatory mirror 17 driven by a stepping motor 18. Consequently, the wide operation range, i.e. depth of focus is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce the size and weight of a scanning head by constituting an optical reader of an optical scanning head, a separate device and an optical fiber and by providing the separate device with a light emitting element, a photodetector and a signal analysis circuit network. CONSTITUTION: This reader 100 is composed of the scanning head 110 and the separate device 130 connected with each other by the optical fiber 150. In the separate device 130, the light emitting element 133 for generating light beams to be used for scanning optical coded information and the other components are contained. Also, the photodetector 117 is provided inside the scanning head 110 and the photodetector 117 can be installed in the separate device 130 as well. In that case, reflected light is sent back from the scanning head 110 to the photodetector inside the separate device 130 by the optical fiber 150. Further, in a processing circuit net 149 inside the separate device 130, an amplification stage and a digitizer, etc., for processing electric signals from the photodetector 117 and an AC driving signal generator 147 for driving a coil 115 are contained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the state of a technique which acquire a sign, especially, a receipt confirmation signature, to use an electroopticall scanner, preferably, a moving beam type or flying spot type scanner to electrooptically acquire the sign, to acquire the sign with reliability so that it can be retrieved later for wide-range pulses, and to conveniently and inexpensively provide a means which identifies a person on a label. CONSTITUTION: Two-dimensional information like a written signature is acquired by an electrooptical scanner 12 and can be reconstituted thereafter. A mutli-row preamble code and mufti-row postamble code means 26 and 28 constitute the signature, and each code has a row identifier, which discriminates which row is scanned with a scanning beam 30 emitted from the scanner 12, and start/stop data which discriminates that each scanning beam traverses the boundary of a space including the signature.

CONSTITUTION: In several practical examples, a piezoelectric bimorph element 28 is used for the scanning function of the reader or the varifocal zoom function of an optical system.     Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a high-speed scanning mechanism for the scanner which reads a bar code symbol by swinging a scanning element according to a uniaxial scanning pattern or multiaxial scanning pattern. CONSTITUTION: The light beam emitted by a light source travels through a window 18 along an optical path and impinges on a display to be read, e.g. the bar code symbol. In the scanner 10, an optical detector which has a view area for collecting reflected light returning from the symbol through the window 18, e.g. a photodiode is arranged. The scanning element arranged in the scanner 10 operates to scan the symbol and/or the view area of the optical detector. The scanning element is a light reflector which is arranged in the emission and/or return path and the light reflector is swung by an electric operation type driving means at a specific frequency alternately in the circumferential direction.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To easily read bar codes having various densities by operation angles in a wide range. CONSTITUTION: Light emitting elements 61 and 62, a photodetection element 63, and a related circuit network are so arranged that two data channels are obtained from a scanned bar code. Two channels have different resolutions. Data of two channels are analyzed to obtain one decoded result. Though the operation angle and the density of the bar code are changed, at least one of two channels having different resolutions must be suitable for detection of the whole or most of bar code data. Data of the channel which generates the correct result can be used as it is. Even if two channels don't generate correct results by themselves, data of each channel is analyzed, and correct parts of their data are combined to generate one correct decoded result.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a scanning module which can be improved in sighting and emitting abilities, scanning pattern visibility, and shock resistance, can be constituted in a compact state, and reduced in the cost. CONSTITUTION: The optical scanning of a bar code symbol is first performed in a sighting mode for scanning the symbol by using a closer first scanning pattern so that the symbol can be seen by a user in a relatively small size, and then, a larger and stronger second scanning pattern for decoding. A preferable scanner module is provided with a scanning mirror fitted to a bracket through a leaf spring and the leaf spring is constituted so that the mirror can be vibrated in one direction. The spring is hung from a fixed chassis by using two strips of a mylar (R) film. The two strips themselves are protected from mechanical shocks by means of pins passed through the holes of the bracket. The pins make the bracket to be accurately aligned with the chassis.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an excellent flexibility and to more simplify the constitution to reduce the constitution cost by detecting light reflected from a target and transmitting a signal indicating the detected light. CONSTITUTION: A scanner 100 includes a laser diode 112, a spherical lens 114, a scan module 118, and detectors 120 and 128. The laser diode 112 and the detector 128 are attached on a laser submount 126 used as a support base. The scan module 118 is attached on a slope part 123 and intercepts and reflects a laser beam from the laser diode 112. While the scanner 100 is operated, the scan module 118 scans the laser beam across the target in one direction. When this laser beam is scanned across a bar code, the detector 120 detects divergent light indicating a light area of the bar code and transmits a signal corresponding to this light. Thus, the bar code is read.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a compact bar code scanner which can operate scanning in one of several modes by including a double resonance structure which generates a (y) vertical scanning motion with either a high frequency or a low frequency. CONSTITUTION: A light beam from a proper source such as a visible laser diode(VLD) 26 is introduced to a high speed horizontal (x) deflection array 28 in which the (x) scanning deflection of the beam is operated at a high speed at first. The obtained (x) scanning beam is introduced to a vertical (y) deflection array 30 in which the vertical scanning deflection of the beam is operated at a low speed or a high speed, and raster and full directional scanning patterns are generated, or the vertical scanning deflection is not operated. The array 30 includes a flexible base having two degree of mechanical freedom for providing two resonating states, that is, low frequency (y) scanning for the raster pattern, and high frequency (y) scanning for the full directional pattern. Also, the array 30 is driven by an electromagnetic force generated by a coil 44 surrounding a permanent magnet 42 fixed to the array 30.
