    Abstract: A microcapsule-type curing agent comprises (A) a curing agent for a thermosetting resin and (B) a thermoplastic resin dissolvable in the thermosetting resin by heating. The microcapsule-type curing agent is formed as a particle-like material in which the component (A) is coated with a layer whose main constituent is the component (B) and the mean particle diameter of which is in the range of 0.1 to 20 mu m. By using the microcapsule-type curing agent, a thermosetting resin composition and a prepreg which are good in storage stability at a room temperature and excellent in thermal resistance of a cured product made therefrom can be obtained. Further, a fiber reinforced composite material obtained using this thermosetting resin composition is excellent in curing uniformity and thermal resistance.

    Abstract: A thermoplastic composite plate material (4) having a quasi isotropy comprises a thermoplastic resin having a melt viscosity of 1,000-15,000 poise and strip pieces (1) each constructed of unidirectionally orientated reinforcing fibers and each having the ratio of the width to the length thereof within specific ranges. The strip pieces (1) are randomly distributed in the plane parallel to a surface of the composite plate material (4). Since the composite plate material (4) has good quasi-isotropic and high mechanical properties such as flexural strength, flexural modulus and impact strength, a composite product having good quasi-isotropic and high mechanical properties can be obtained by using the composite plate materials (4). Moreover, since the composite plate material (4) can be easily fitted into a mould, a composite product having a complicated shape can be easily moulded.

    Abstract: An aliphatic copolyesteramide having a high degree of polymerization is prepared by heating a mixture of (A) ester-forming components comprising (a) aliphatic diols with 2 to 6 carbon atoms and (b) aliphatic dicarboxylic acids with 9 to 12 carbon atoms and (B) amide-forming components chosen from (a) aliphatic omega -aminocarboxylic acids having 11 or 12 carbon atoms and (b) equimolar salts of aliphatic diamines with 6 to 12 carbon atoms and aliphatic dicarboxylic acids with 9 to 12 carbon atoms, at temperatures of 150 to 260 DEG C, under a substantially atmospheric pressure, in the presence of catalyst and in the substantial absence of water, and subsequently heating the resulting esterified product at temperatures of 200 to 300 DEG C under a reduced pressure. The obtained copolyesteramide can be formed into various moulded articles, in particular such as tubes, having excellent flexibility, toughness, shapability, chemical resistance, heat resistance, hydrolysis resistance and fatigue resistance.

    Abstract: A highly rigid poly-ε-caprolactam composition containing about 50 to 5000 ppm of barium and having a γ-type crystal ratio of about 0.3 to 0.7 is disclosed. The composition has improved rigidity without loss of other advantageous mechanical properties of poly-ε-caprolactam. By addition of an aluminium compound, e.g. aluminium stearate, the rigidity of the composition can be further improved. A bisamide compound, e.g. methylene-bis-stearylamide, may be added to provide excellent mold release without harming the mechanical properties of the composition.The composition is made by treating poly-ε-caprolactam with an aqueous solution containing Ba ions and heating the treated poly-ε-caprolactam to the molten state, or alternatively by melt-polymerizing ε-caprolactam in the presence of a suitable Ba compound e.g. barium-E-amino caprolate or Ba(OH) 2 . If aluminium is to be included, the barium-containing poly-ε-caprolactam can be melt-blended with an Al salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid; alternatively e-caprolactam can be melt-polymerized in the presence of suitable barium and aluminium compounds.
