Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for deep-drawing a tray (1) from a blank of sheet material (2). The blank is provided with score lines, which determine the location of wrinkles formed in the process. The apparatus comprises a female moulding tool (3), which comprises a cavity (7) for forming the tray bot-tom outwardly, a male moulding tool (4), which comprises a plunger (11) for form-ing the tray bottom inwardly, the plunger being movable with respect to the cavity for forming the tray, and clamps (6, 15) with an interface for holding the sheet ma-terial and forming a tray rim flange. According to the invention by laterally distanc-ing at least one of the moulding tools (3, 4) from the sheet material leeway is pro-vided for free forming so that wrinkling of the tray side walls is achieved in a con-trolled manner. Spacer plates (13) may be positioned behind the plunger (11), to adjust its position in relation to the cavity (7) of the female moulding tool (3). The cavity may have a separate bottom plate (8) and spacer plates (9) therebelow, or screw means may be provided for adjusting the distance of the bottom of the cavi-ty from the clamp interface and thereby varying the depth of the tray.
Abstract:
A tool having a blank positioning system and method for forming a container. The tool has a first tool assembly and a second tool assembly that cooperate to shape the container from a blank. The blank positioning system positions the blank between the first tool assembly and the second tool assembly prior to forming the blank into the container.

Abstract:
This invention pertains to a method and apparatus for wrapping an article, wherein a metal foil is pleated and then formed in to a dished shape such that the pleats unfold, and then an article is placed within this dished shape.
Abstract:
A method for forming a corrugated paperboard and a container made therefrom is provided. The corrugated paper is formed with a first layer of flat paperboard to which a second layer of contoured paperboard is attached. The contoured layer of paperboard is further formed with a plurality of flutes, each flute including a first flute tip and a second flute tip, the flute being substantially vertical at the midpoint between the flute tips. The method of forming the corrugated paperboard container comprises placing the corrugated paperboard into a stamping dye which has a male dye portion and a female cavity shaped in the shape of which the paperboard is to be formed. The paperboard is then pressed between the dye and the cavity to apply a pressure to the paperboard. Heat is also applied to the paperboard simultaneously with the application of pressure. The dye is then removed from the cavity and the paperboard container is formed. The paperboard container is formed from a continuous sheet of paperboard, and no cuts are made in the paperboard when forming the paperboard container.
Abstract:
A cut and score die apparatus is provided for progressively converting a sheet of material into blanks. The apparatus includes a punching section for punching scrap material from the sheet of material to define an array of interconnected blanks arranged in a grid of rows and columns on the sheet of material. A scoring section is provided for simultaneously scoring a first predetermined pattern on a trailing portion of a first row of blanks and a second predetermined pattern on the leading portion of a second, succeeding row of blanks on the sheet of material. A blanking section is also provided for piercing the sheet of material in a predetermined pattern to cut blanks from the sheet of material without producing any additional scrap material.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is provided for progressively converting each blank of sheet material in a stream of moving blanks into a clamshell assembly having interconnected lid and bottom portions. The apparatus includes a female die assembly having first and second mold cavities, an upstream control system for aligning one portion of each blank at a lid-pressing station defined by the first mold cavity, and a downstream control system for aligning a remaining portion of each blank at a bottom-pressing station defined by the second mold cavity. A male die assembly is provided for simultaneously forming a lid portion in one blank of sheet material and a bottom portion in an adjacent blank of sheet material. In particular, during each pressing cycle, the male die assembly simultaneously presses an initial blank at the bottom-pressing station and a succeeding blank at the lid-pressing station to produce the equivalent of a whole clamshell assembly on a single stroke of the male die assembly. This pressing cycle is repeated upon shifting the pressed blanks to a next downstream position to accomplish progressive conversion of each blank into a clamshell assembly.
Abstract:
Method for forming a paperboard receptacle includes male and female dies which draw the receptacle from a blank. The receptacle is moisturized during the drawing process to plasticize and lubricate the paperboard by injecting steam into one of the dies.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for forming a sheet of material into an article, such as a flower pot cover, is provided. The apparatus includes a female die and a male die. A sheet of material is positioned between the male die and the female die. The male and female dies are shaped such that at least a portion of the male die is receivable in the opening of the female die to form the article. The apparatus further includes means for supplying a stream of air between the female die and the formed article to release the formed article from the female die and means for holding the formed article against the male die as the male die and the female die are positioned from a forming position to a discharge position whereby the formed article is removed from the female die.
