    Abstract: A lockstep controller operates a lockstep system of three or more CPU-GPU pairs, comparing the outputs from the CPU-GPU pairs and, by way of a majority vote, provides the output for the lockstep system. Based on comparing the outputs, if one of the CPU-GPU pairs provides outputs that disagree with the majority outputs, it can be switched out of the lockstep system. The removed CPU is replaced by a backup CPU. So that the backup CPU can be part of a CPU-GPU pair, a portion of the address space from the GPU of one of the other CPU-GPU pairs is assigned to the backup CPU to operate as a replacement CPU-GPU pair, while the CPU already associated with this GPU retains another portion of the GPU's address space to continue operating as a CPU-GPU pair.

    Abstract: A data processing apparatus and a method for processing data are disclosed. The data processing apparatus comprises: processing circuitry to process instructions; and trace circuitry comprising: a trace buffer; write pointer storage to store a write pointer to indicate a current location in the trace buffer; and a call depth counter to indicate a number of events, wherein the trace circuitry is configured to generate trace data indicative of processing activities of the processing circuitry, and in response to a first event to: modify the call depth counter in a first direction, store first trace data indicative of the first event in the trace buffer at the current location, and modify the write pointer to point to a next location in the trace buffer; in response to a second event, when the call depth counter is not equal to a threshold call depth, to: modify the call depth counter in a second direction and modify the write pointer to point to a previous location in the trace buffer; and in response to the second event, when the call depth counter is equal to the threshold call depth, to store second trace data indicative of the second event in the trace buffer at the current location.

    Abstract: A request to restore a plurality of files to a first storage system from a backup stored at a second storage system is received. Corresponding file relocation metadata for each of the plurality of files is provided to the first storage system. The corresponding file relocation metadata for each of the plurality of files enables accessibility of contents of the plurality of files at the first storage system without storing entire contents of the plurality of files at the first storage system. A corresponding full content version for at least one of the plurality of files that is to be utilized by the first storage system is provided to enable direct access at the first storage system to contents of the at least one of the plurality of files instead of utilizing corresponding file relocation metadata for the at least one of the plurality of files to access the contents of the at least one of the plurality of files.
