Abstract:
A shaft having a sprocket fixed at one end thereof is reliably assembled to the supporting wall of an engine, with a reduced number of parts and man-hours required for assembly. A camshaft having a sprocket fixed at one end thereof is installed by engaging a pair of ball bearings with supporting holes on supporting walls of the engine. A crescent-shaped step partially cut in the loosing direction of an endless chain is formed on one supporting hole. An outer race of one ball bearing on the camshaft is engaged with the step. An endless chain is wound around the sprocket, and the one ball bearing is moved into the supporting hole, and the other ball bearing is correctly engaged with the other supporting hole, thereby completing assembly of the camshaft.
Abstract:
An overhead cam internal combustion engine having a slanted head design which permits the camshaft assembly comprising a camshaft, rocker arms and valve assemblies to be pre-assembled to the head and valve lash to be set off of the main engine assembly line. The slanted head design allows the chain sprocket and timing chain for driving the camshaft to be installed thereon after the head has been assembled to the engine block, accommodating the easy installation of the timing chain. L-shaped rocker arms, mounted on a single shaft, follow a single lobe overhead camshaft. Each rocker arm actuates a valve located on the side of the camshaft opposite that which it follows.
Abstract:
A driving arrangement for a motor vehicle having a transversely disposed V-type four camshaft internal combustion engine. The camshafts are all driven in timed relationship with the crankshaft with a first flexible transmitter being operative to drive the intake camshafts of each cylinder bank at the same end of the engine from the crankshaft. The exhaust camshafts of each bank are driven by the intake camshafts at the opposite end of the engine.
Abstract:
A hydraulic tensioner with an internal reservoir. The tensioner includes a housing having a sleeve, and a hollow piston slidably received about the sleeve and biased in a protruding direction by a spring. A fluid chamber is defined by the sleeve and the hollow piston. Fluid from an external source flows through a passageway into a reservoir which is located inside the tensioner housing above the fluid chamber. The reservoir is connected to the fluid chamber such that fluid flows from the reservoir through a check valve assembly into the fluid chamber such that the fluid chamber remains filled with fluid.
Abstract:
A vibration damper assembly to absorb vibrations in a camshaft and sprocket system has a sprocket positioned around a camshaft, an inertia ring positioned around the camshaft and adjacent the sprocket, yet capable of moving independently of the sprocket, and a hub member positioned around the camshaft adjacent the inertia ring. Frictional material is interposed between the hub member and a rim portion of the inertia ring whereby the inertia ring and hub member slide with respect to one another along the frictional material to absorb vibrations from the camshaft through heat dissipation.
Abstract:
A timing chain cover which is mounted to an engine block having an opening in general axial alignment with an exposed end of a camshaft. A cap is mounted to the cover and generally seated in the opening. The cap includes a hole in general axial alignment with the camshaft and an adjustable button is secured in the hole. One end of the button engages the camshaft to prevent cam walk and opposed end is accessible for adjustment without removal of the cover from the engine block.
Abstract:
An apparatus having two pistons journalled elastically yieldable counter to tensioning direction. As a consequence of double-acting construction, impacts or shocks of an endless drive and with that wear of a primary-side drive element, that is that of a tooth belt or chain connecting the crank shaft with the cam shaft can be avoided. If during operation of the apparatus moreover shocks or impacts arise and occur in the endless drive, then the pistons can yield elastically so that tensioning shoes fastened on the pistons are not subject to any increased wear. As a consequence of resilient damping of the shocks or impacts, the entire apparatus is also less strongly burdened and loaded so that a long life expectancy is assured. As a consequence of the elastically yieldable journalling, the pistons are always again loaded into the tensioning positioning thereof so that the tensioning of the endless drive is not influenced thereby.
Abstract:
A V-type multi-cylinder 4-cycle engine E accommodated in an engine room in an outboard motor includes a pair of left and right banks. A surge tank is disposed in a space defined between both the banks and connected to two left and right combustion chambers through intake ports. A throttle body is connected to a lower portion of the surge tank and also to an intake silencer mounted in a left space of the engine room through an elbow. A subsidiary tank for supplying a fuel to an injector is disposed symmetrically with the intake silencer in a right space of the engine room. The employment of the above-described layout makes it possible to make an intake device move compact in the 4-cycle engine.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an adjustable force transmission arrangement in a big diesel engine for accomplishing force transmission from a crankshaft (9) of the engine by means of gear wheels to at least one camshaft (11). The arrangement includes a first gear wheel (1), which is in connection with the force transmission of the crankshaft (9), and a second gear wheel (2), which is in connection with the force transmission of the camshaft (11), said gear wheels (1,2) being arranged adjacent to each other and arranged in force transmitting connection with each other through a friction surface (5). In accordance with the invention the arrangement comprises a guiding element (3), which is supported by means of a separate slide bearing element (7) to the engine block (6) so that it is guided both in the radial and in the axial direction. The guiding element (3) is arranged to be fixed by means of one or several screw bolts (4) or the like to said first gear wheel (1) so that said second gear wheel (2) is positioned between the first gear wheel (1) and the guiding element (3) and receives from these pieces its guidance also in the radial direction.
