Abstract:
Devices, systems and methods are described which control blood pressure and nervous system activity by stimulating baroreceptors. By selectively and controllably activating baroreceptors and/or nerves, the present invention reduces blood pressure and alters the sympathetic nervous system; thereby minimizing deleterious effects on the heart, vasculature and other organs and tissues. A baroreceptor activation device or other sensory activation device is positioned near a dermal bone to provide the treatment.
Abstract:
A patient support system, such as a bed, stretcher, wheelchair or the like, has an electronic control system and a user interface. The electronic control system and the user interface control bed functions, such as articulation of the head, seat, and leg sections of the bed deck, and control and/or monitor the operation of medical equipment, such as heart rate monitors, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, sequential compression therapy devices, chest wall oscillation devices, respiratory therapy devices, blood oxygen monitors, and the like. In some embodiments, the electronic control system and user interface communicate with patient personal digital devices, such as audio players, computers, and phones. The user interface is on the headboard, footboard, and/or on a siderail of the bed in some embodiments.

Abstract:
In an upper limb training apparatus, an exterior cover covers first and second gimbal mechanisms. The exterior cover includes a fixed cover fixed to a fixed frame, and first and second moving covers. The first moving cover is fixed to and moves together with an operation rod. The second moving cover is fixed to and moves together with a movable frame. The second moving cover is arranged between the first moving cover and the fixed cover so as to be able to move relative to both of the first moving cover and the fixed cover.
Abstract:
A sealable cabinet that permits a human or animal to experience a dry bath for carbon dioxide or other gases, with said cabinet fitted with gas, water, and power connections, and a controller to optimize the temperature, gas concentrations, and water vapor content of the interior, plus a switchable means for selecting between a sauna environment and said carbon dioxide bath, with a business method that enables a provider of services involving such equipment to achieve a profitable interface with patients and customers.
Abstract:
This disclosure concerns a wallhugger bed with a plurality of mattress retaining brackets secured to one or more corners of the mattress platform to keep the mattress from shifting on the mattress platform during operation of the actuator.
Abstract:
An orthesis system includes an exoskeleton configured to be coupled to a user and a separate support device in the form of crutches, a walker or a cane. Preferably, the exoskeleton includes leg supports, an exoskeleton trunk, and actuators to provide for movement of the exoskeleton. The support device includes at least one support handle and a signal generator coupled to the support handle configured to generate and send a user command signal to an exoskeleton controller when activated by the user. The user command signal causes the exoskeleton controller to shift the exoskeleton between a first operational state and a second operational state. Optionally, a signal generator separate from the support device may be utilized to control the exoskeleton. Operational states of the exoskeleton include Walking, Standing, Seated, Sitting, Down and Standing Up states. User command signals can include a combination of distinct main, walking, or stopping signals.
Abstract:
A walking assistance device applies a walking assistance force from an electric motor to a femoral part of a user. The device comprises a communication unit and an operation switch enabling unit. The operation switch enabling unit disables an operation switch of the walking assistance device until the communication unit receives a signal from an external device even when a power switch is turned on, and enables the operation switch when the communication unit has received a signal from the external device while the power switch is turned on. Thus, unauthorized use of the walking assistance device is prevented, and operation of the walking assistance device is supervised with control parameters suited for the particular user. Also, the walking assistance device can be shared by a plurality of users, and each user can use the walking assistance device with pre-selected control parameters that optimally suit the particular user.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a chiropractic instrument capable of achieving the benefits of algorithmic pre-stretch, power-stretch, and recoil and release in reciprocating therapy to human tissue. In particular, that application teaches a plunging-probing technique wherein a barrage of power-stretch impulses is added to a time-modulated ramp of increasing and decreasing stretches, while offering an inherent safety-limit which prevents, upon operator error force, beyond the max given on its label, while providing meaningful tactile feedback to the practitioner. The new idea yields tethered reproducible power-stretches which only occur concurrently with achieving precise, variable, and preset levels of tissue pre-stretch force.
Abstract:
A portable active pneumatically-powered ankle foot orthosis. A lower leg mount and a foot bed are pivotally coupled at or proximate to an ankle position. A pneumatically powered rotary actuator is configured to receive power from a wearable fluid power source and provide controlled force and resistance to aid or inhibit relative rotation of the foot bed and the lower leg mount. Embedded sensors provide feedback from the device.
