Abstract: A method for producing a decorative surface having different gloss levels preferably comprising the following steps: (C) feeding of a workpiece (1.0), which is coated with at least a first lacquer layer (1.4) to a digital printing station; (D) provision of digital control data for the digital printing station; (E) digital spraying of droplets on partial areas of the first lacquer layer (1.4) on the workpiece (1.0) with an at least partially transparent lacquer in order to apply a second lacquer layer (1.5) on the first lacquer layer (1.4), wherein after curing the second lacquer layer (1.5) has a different gloss level than the first lacquer layer (1.4). Further disclosed is an apparatus for carrying out this method.

Abstract: An essentially 100% solids, single-component, UV curable, low-viscosity, penetrating sealant composition for wood substrates and other porous substrates is prepared from an acrylate-methacrylate mixture, a functionalized resin, an unsaturated fatty acid triglyceride oil, and a photoinitiator. The sealant composition may further contain a metal catalyst, an amine synergist, fillers, pigments, dyes, flow and leveling additives, air release chemicals, UV absorbers, hindered amine light stabilizers, fungicides, insect repellents, and/or mold inhibitors. The sealant composition exhibits fast cure times along with resistance to degradation.

Abstract: A coating composition for applying a very thin film coating to a substrate such as a polymeric film comprises a copolymer such as a block copolymer (BCP) that is compatible with the substrate, an alcohol solvent or solvents capable of dissolving the copolymer, a hydrolysed metal alkoxide precursor, a carboxylic acid stabiliser, and an active agent in an ionic, molecular, or small nanoparticle form. The active agent is configured to provide a functionality to the coating composition, selected from antimicrobial, antifungal, barrier, therapeutic, electrical, electronic, magnetic and optical. The composition is a sol comprising a continuous non-sedimentable/stable suspension of very small sized (of nano order) amorphous inorganic polymers in their oligomeric or polymeric state, and comprising the active agent dispersed in a hydrolysed metal alkoxide-BCP matrix. Substrates coated with very thin coatings are also provided, including coated LDPE which is activated before coating by UV/ozone, plasma or corona treatment prior to deposition of a wetting layer.

Abstract: An in-line process for reusing printed cans is disclosed. The process includes positioning a printed can in front of a laser, the printed can having existing-print on an outer surface of the printed can. And, irradiating the outer surface of the printed can with laser radiation to remove 10% to 90% of the existing-print from the printed can and thereby form a lightened-printed can. And further, coating the outer surface of the lightened-printed can with a masking agent to form a blank-reprintable can. Finally, optionally, printing a new print-pattern on the outer surface of the blank-reprintable can to form a newly-printed can.

Abstract: A process for making a barrier film having a substrate, a base polymer layer applied to the substrate, an oxide layer applied to the base polymer layer, and a top coat polymer layer applied to the oxide layer is provided. An optional inorganic layer can be applied over the top coat polymer layer. The top coat polymer layer is formed by vapor depositing and curing cyclic aza-silane and acrylate monomer. The use of a silane co-deposited with an acrylate to form the top coat layer of the barrier films provide for enhanced resistance to moisture and improved peel strength adhesion of the top coat layer to the underlying barrier stack layers.

Abstract: In a terminal-equipped electric wire in which a first barrel of a crimp terminal is crimped to a core wire exposed portion of an electric wire, a second barrel of the crimp terminal is crimped to a covering portion of the electric wire, and an anticorrosive portion is formed at least in an opening portion between the first barrel and the second barrel, an adhesive member is arranged on an outer peripheral surface of the covering portion, a base member and adhesive layers of the adhesive member are held in an elastically deformed state by being crimped by the second barrel, the inner adhesive layer of the adhesive member adheres to the entire circumference of the outer peripheral surface of the covering portion, and the outer adhesive layer of the adhesive member adheres to the entire circumference of an inner peripheral surface of the second barrel.
