Abstract:
A device for providing elliptical path motion to skin or other surface. The device includes a motor, shaft, and a cam having at least one offset axis cam lobe for creating offset motion. A mounting bracket assembly that has a pair of arms associated with the motor can be moved by the cam in an elliptical path having X-axis, Y-axis and, in exemplary embodiments, Z-axis movement. The mounting bracket assembly may have two brackets, each being associated with an oscillating plate. Each oscillating plate may have a plurality of protrusions or tufts of bristles protruding therefrom. Elliptical movement of the oscillating plates creates offset elliptical motion of the protrusions associated with each oscillating plate. A fluid delivery system may be incorporated to provide fluid through the device. The device may be used for cleaning, stimulation or treatment of skin.
Abstract:
A system and method of treating hyperactivity of an eyelid closing muscle in a subject after facial nerve paralysis includes providing a stimulation system and selectively stimulating eyelid opening muscle(s) or innervating nerves, eyelid opening reflexes, or eyelid opening reflexes in non-muscular tissue, using the stimulation system, without substantially activating the eyelid closing muscle. The system and method evokes eyelid movement in the subject.
Abstract:
One variation of an interaction module for a sexual stimulation device, including: a support structure including a metallic material and defining a bore; a vibratory actuator including a rotary motor, an output shaft, and an eccentric mass coupled to the output shaft; a housing enclosing the eccentric mass and the output shaft; a first isolator arranged over the vibratory actuator opposite the eccentric mass and configured to pivotably couple the vibratory actuator to the bore of the support structure; a second isolator coupled to the vibratory actuator adjacent the first isolator and configured to contact an interior surface of the bore of the support structure to define a pivot endstop for the vibratory actuator; and a sheath arranged over the vibratory actuator and a portion of the support structure.
Abstract:
A system for resuscitation of a heart attack victim. The system includes CPR device which compresses the victim's chest, a defibrillator which may be used to defibrillate the patient, and an identification system for identifying the person operating the system. Depending on the identity of the operator, the system permits varying degrees of access to components and enablement of the functions of the various subsystems.
Abstract:
The invention is a method and apparatus used for rehabilitation and training of an injured limb by using the corresponding functional healthy limb to control the motion of the injured limb. The apparatus comprises a sensor system for the healthy and active limb, a powered mechanism for moving individual bones on the injured passive limb, a processing unit, and a power supply.
Abstract:
A high frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO) therapy system includes an inflatable garment, an air pulse generator operable to produce oscillating pressure pulses that are communicated to the inflatable garment, at least one hose to interconnect the air pulse generator with the inflatable garment and to communicate the oscillatory pressure pulses from the air pulse generator to the inflatable garment. The air pulse generator is sized, shaped, and configured so as to occupy a volume no greater than about 1,200 in.3 and to weigh no more than about 17 lbs.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a manual CPR device, also known as a CPR derrick, includes a frame that is put close to a patient who is on the ground. The device also includes a piston that can be moved up and down, and is aligned to be over the patient's chest. The device also has an actuator that the rescuer can operate manually so as to move the piston up and down, which will deliver compressions to the patient's chest. A bottom stop prevents the compressions from being too deep. In some embodiments, proper dimensioning of the CPR derrick permits the rescuer to perform CPR chest compressions while standing up, i.e. without kneeling. The rescuer may be able to perform higher quality CPR, and for a longer time, giving more opportunity to a life-saving team to arrive in time.
Abstract:
A binocular viewer, a method of measuring and training vision that uses a binocular viewer and a vision measurement and training system that employs a computer to control the binocular viewer. In one embodiment, the binocular viewer has left and right display elements and comprises: (1) a variable focal depth optical subsystem located in an optical path between the display elements and a user when the user uses the binocular viewer and (2) a control input coupled to the left and right display elements and the variable focal depth optical subsystem and configured to receive control signals operable to place images on the left and right display elements and vary a focal depth of the variable focal depth optical subsystem. In another embodiment, the binocular viewer lacks the variable focal depth optical subsystem, but the images include at least one feature unique to one of the left and right display elements.
Abstract:
One variation of a device for sexual stimulation includes: an interaction module, a power module, and a control module. The interaction module includes a housing, a female power port supported by the housing, and a first and a second vibratory actuator coupled to the female power port, isolated from the housing, and supported by the housing. The power module includes a battery coupled to a male power port. The male power port is configurable between: a first configuration in which the male power port transiently couples to an external power source to charge the battery; and a second configuration in which the male power port transiently retains the interaction module and powers the vibratory actuators to generate haptic vibratory stimulation. The control module configured to control vibratory magnitude settings and vibratory pattern settings of the vibratory actuators based upon inputs at input regions.
