Abstract:
A process for the fabrication of seamless substrates which comprises (1) providing a substrate with a release coating composition thereover; (2) depositing thereon by electrostatic powder spraying a polymer; (3) melting the polymer blend; and (4) subsequently permitting the melted blend to cool. Thereafter, layered photoconductive imaging members can be prepared by the application, for example, of a ground plane, a photogenerating layer, and a charge transport layer.
Abstract:
A waterproofing sheet used to waterproof structures above and below grade has a single layer of non-degradable, water impermeable polymeric membrane that has layers of particles of non-hydrated sodium montmorillonite (sodium bentonite) adhering to the membrane in a uniform layered thickness. The layers of particles of sodium montmorillonite spaced from the membrane adhere to each other, with a coating material (adhesive) that is designed to provide the necessary performance for waterproofing under a high water head (hydrostatic pressure). The material is in sectioned sheet or roll form and can be easily applied on the job.
Abstract:
In the electrostatic spraying on metal substrates of mixtures of different inorganic powders which differ in density, particle size and electrical resistance, the improvement which comprises first forming uniform agglomerates as the different powders, and then spraying the uniform agglomerates. This prevents color variation due to separation of different powders.
Abstract:
A method for electrostatically applying a thermoplastic resin coating on a threaded portion of a fastener to provide a self locking element thereon. A plurality of fasteners are moved by a spaced pair of endless belts passed a spray station where a stream of powdered resin is directed toward the threaded ends of the fasteners. The fasteners and resin are polarized to opposite polarities at the spray station whereby the powdered resin is attracted to and clings to the threaded ends of the fastener and extends completely about the circumference of said ends. Air jet nozzles located downstream of the spray station may direct streams of compressed air against certain portions of the powdered resin to remove the resin therefrom to provide uncoated lead threads and to regulate the distance that the resin extends circumferentially about the threaded ends to provide a coating extending between 180 degrees and 360 degrees about the threaded ends. The powder coated fasteners then pass through a heating zone which melts the powdered resin on the threaded ends forming a permanent bond therebetween and providing the self locking element thereon. The fastener also may be heated before the stream of polarized powdered resin particles is directed toward the fastener to assist in bonding the resin to the fastener and to enable a greater buildup of thermoplastic resin to be applied thereto.
Abstract:
A water repellent, for example an organic silicon compound, is added to an annealing separator which is applied electrostatically to the surface of a grain oriented magnetic steel sheet, or a glass-like film forming undercoating formed on the sheet surface.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a novel method for applying a film of a coating composition in liquid form onto a substrate which applied film cures rapidly at room temperature without heat curing. The coating composition comprises a hydroxyl-functional compound (preferably bearing aromatic-hydroxyl groups) and a multi-isocyanate cross-linking agent, optionally dispersed in a fugitive organic solvent therefor. The method comprises the steps of:(a) concurrently generating an atomizate of said coating composition and a carrier gas bearing a catalytic amount of a vaporous tertiary amine;(b) mixing said atomizate and said vaporous catalytic amine-bearing carrier gas flow; and(c) directing said mixture of step (b) onto said substrate to form said applied film.
Abstract:
Apparatus for electrostatically depositing powder on objects which move continuously through a powder-depositing booth of modular type having a powder depositing module (B) on each side of which there is an air filter module (A and C); the powder depositing module (B) has two compartment (B1, B2) next to each other each compartment having a distinct powder store tank (11, 12) which allows two layers of powder to be applied successively to the object to be treated. Application to enamelling objects.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus by which the interior of a pipe is coated with a uniform thickness of plastic. A source of heat-meltable plastic material in particular form is connected at a location upstream of the inlet end of the pipe, while the opposed end of the pipe is made attachable to a reduced pressure. A source of compressible fluid is also connected at a location upstream of the inlet end of the pipe. The pipe is preheated and then rotated axially while a charge of powdered plastic is forced through the pipe by the compressible fluid. The powdered plastic which flows through the pipe is a finite pocket of the finely divided plastic, which is smaller in volume respective to the volume of the pipe being coated.
Abstract:
A method of coating a photographic support with photographic material includes moving the support past a coating zone at a substantially constant velocity and generating a stream of equally sized and spaced drops of photographic coating liquid toward the coating zone so that the liquid is deposited at discrete, uniformly sized and spaced, sites of predetermined pitch.
Abstract:
A nozzle assembly for an electrostatic powder spray gun is disclosed. The powder spray gun includes an electrically non-conductive barrel through which a high voltage electrical path passes. The nozzle assembly is mounted in the open forward end of the barrel and includes a sleeve located on the center axis of the barrel for directing a flow of a pressurized gas, e.g., air, through the center of the nozzle assembly, a nozzle surrounding the sleeve defining an annular flow path for powder spray coating material encircling the flow of pressurized air and an air deflector cap for directing the pressurized air radially outwardly and into the flow of powder spray coating material being emitted from the nozzle. The air impacts the powder coating material to form a conical spray pattern of coating material. The gun also includes an electrode extending out of the nozzle assembly for electrostatically charging the powder. The nozzle assembly eliminates mechanical powder deflectors and the problems attendant therewith.
