Abstract:
A apparatus includes an a exoskeleton system with a plurality of sensors for generating signals indicating a current motion and a current arrangement of at least the exoskeleton system, a hip segment, and at least one lower limb. The lower limb includes thigh and shank segments for coupling to a lateral surface of a user's leg. The thigh segment includes a first powered joint coupling the thigh segment to the hip segment, a second powered joint coupling the thigh segment to the shank segment, and a controller coupled to the sensors, the first powered joint, and the second powered joint. The controller is configured for determining a current state of the exoskeleton system and a current intent of the user based on the signals and generating control signals for the first and second powered joints based on the current state and the current intent.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for adult oriented massage is presented. The apparatus includes a housing unit. An upper stimulation source is disposed within the housing unit. The upper stimulation source is operable for transferring a first percussive stimulation to a woman's lower abdomen proximate a top of a pubic bone. A lower stimulation source is disposed below the upper stimulation and is operable for transferring a second percussive stimulation to a region proximate a bottom of the pubic bone. A drive unit is disposed below the lower stimulation source for driving the upper and lower stimulation sources. A support unit supports the housing unit. At least one flexible unit enables an angle between the housing unit and the support unit to be adjusted, where the first percussive stimulation and the second percussive stimulation combine to enable the woman to achieve a beneficial stimulation.
Abstract:
A therapeutic outfit or body suit design that has the Chinese meridian pathways sewed in or imprinted on each piece of apparel. The Chinese meridian pathways are strips and circles that are placed at the chi energy pathways of the body. The outfit or body suit can be apparel that is snug to the body or loose on the body. The strips and circles on the therapeutic outfit or body suit are heated by the Sun (Solar) or power source. The heated strips and circles promote circulation of blood and chi through the body maintaining physical and emotional well-being.
Abstract:
A respiration-assistance apparatus or method can include or use a lifting element such as to cyclically push, pull, or lift, toward a superior direction of the subject, at least one subject region during an inhalation portion of a respiration cycle of the subject. A cyclical member can couple the lifting element to a fixed reference. Abdominal or ribcage compression can be provided. A multi-action or other cam can be used, such as together with a reciprocating element. Examples can be configured for use with a wheelchair, a bed, a vacuum or suction affixation element, a wearable garment, etc.
Abstract:
A wearable motion supporting device includes a waist portion frame having a long base portion in a right-left direction of a wearer, a pair of right and left lower extremity frames connected to a lower portion of the waist portion frame, a back portion frame connected to an upper portion of the base portion of the waist portion frame, and a connection portion connecting the back portion frame and the base portion of the waist portion frame. The connection portion is made of a rotational mechanism of one DOF (Degree Of Freedom) on a frontal plane, for example, a four-node link mechanism.
Abstract:
An extended term resuscitation system includes a plurality of inflatable cuffs adapted to extend around separate portions of the anatomy of a patient (i.e. the chest, abdomen and legs) for enhancing the circulation when inflated/deflated periodically. A primary low-pressure-high-volume air compressor is in fluid communication with each of the cuffs through individual air handlers. The air handlers are formed with an inflation and a deflation diaphragm valve which, under the control of an electronic timer and a pneumatic circuit, connect the respective cuff to the output of the compressor for inflation or to the atmosphere for deflation. A secondary air compressor provides air under suitable pressure to the pneumatic circuit for the control of the diaphragm valves. As an option the operator may change the cyclical rate and cuff pressure. A ventilator provides oxygen to the patient in selected volumes or on demand.
Abstract:
Method and devices for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers are described in which a portable support assembly may be worn by a bed-stricken individual around particular regions of the body where pressure ulcers tend to form. The portable support assembly may generally include one or more individual fluid filled pods which are enclosed entirely within an inner fluid pad localized along a central portion. Both the one or more pods and inner fluid pad are then enclosed entirely by another layer of fluid within an outer fluid pad which extends over the entire assembly. Each of the fluid layers may be secured to an outer shell which is relatively stiffer than the fluid layers and may restrict or limit the expansion or movement of the fluid pods and/or fluid pads.
Abstract:
Provided is a motion assisting device capable of assisting a periodical walking motion of a creature so as to conduct a smooth motion of a leg thereof. According to the motion assisting device, an assisting force applied to the creature so as to assist a leg of the creature in moving with respect to a body thereof is reinforced by an increment in an auxiliary coefficient increased in a reinforcement duration. Accordingly, the stretch motion of the leg at the on-ground state is assisted by a relatively stronger assisting force. Thereby, the body is conducted to translate forward by a floor reaction force subjected to the leg at the on-ground state. A flexion motion of the leg at an off-ground state is induced by a reflex (stretch reflex) to the stretch motion of the leg by the assisting force at a previous off-ground state.
Abstract:
A lumbar system for use in a seat includes a frame having a first side and a second side substantially opposite the first side, a pump mounted to the second side of the frame and operable to pressurize air, and a control module mounted to the second side of the frame. The control module is in communication with the pump to receive pressurized air. The lumbar system also includes a plurality of air cells mounted to the first side of the frame. Each of the plurality of air cells individually communicates with the control module to receive variable amounts of pressurized air provided by the pump such that each air cell is independently inflatable. The frame, the pump, the control module, and the plurality of air cells are installable in the seat as a single unit by coupling the frame to the seat.
Abstract:
A sciatic relief device comprising a base, at least one reversibly inflatable bladder enclosed in a sleeve, and an inflation device attached to the bladder. A method of use for the sciatic relief device, wherein a user positions his thigh on top of the inflated bladder for at least a short period of time to alleviate the pain and other symptoms associated with sciatica.
