Abstract: A connective tissue modification cuff can be applied around a portion of the body and drawn tight. Integrated within the portion of the cuff that is pressed against the body is a plurality of variable compression beads. These variable compression beads comprise half spherical beads, half prolate spheroid beads, half oblate spheroid beads, or other similarly rounded structures that provide variably increasing pressure towards their high-points and gradually reduced pressure towards their low points. The cuff can be tightened down via a tensioning system that allows even tightening in small increments. Once in place, the person then stretches or uses the arm in order to apply the variable compression beads to the connective tissue under use. Such application works on the underlying connective tissue to reduce the pain and associated problems.

Abstract: A power assist robot apparatus is disclosed which is capable of assisting heavy-object lifting action and walking movement with fewer driving sources, and a method is disclosed for controlling the power assist robot apparatus. Two power-assist electric motors are located near opposite lateral sides in a right-left direction of the wearer's waist, respectively. Each lower-limb assist arm has one end fixed to a rotary shaft of the power-assist electric motor and the other end to which a lateral side of the thigh is attached. An upper-body assist arm placed at the wearer's chest and a main frame that holds the two power-assist electric motors at both ends thereof and is placed at the wearer's waist are connected by a driven rotary shaft which is rotatable about a vertical axis and a driven rotary shaft which is rotatable about a right-left axis.

Abstract: The headache mitigating apparatus includes at least a transverse strap configured to wrap around a user's head in the manner of a hat band and at least one strap configured to extend under the user's occipital bone and rest along the user's upper neck as well as extending over the head strap at a forward end thereof. The apparatus can include bladders in the transverse and occipital straps, respectively. The bladders can be filled simultaneously or separately with a pneumatic hand pump such as those found on sphygmomanometers or may include an inflation apparatus which is operable via a push button, in a manner similar to that in which self-inflating items inflate. At least one strap may also accommodate a gel pack for heating or cooling. One or both straps may include buckles or hook and loop closures configured to be adjusted to secure the apparatus to the user's head.

Abstract: A powered device augments a joint function of a human during a gait cycle using a powered actuator that supplies an augmentation torque, an impedance, or both to a joint. A controller estimates terrain slope and modulates the augmentation torque and the impedance according to a phase of the gait cycle and the estimated terrain slope to provide at least a biomimetic response. The controller may also modulate a joint equilibrium. Accordingly, the device is capable of normalizing or augmenting human biomechanical function, responsive to a wearer's activity, regardless of speed and terrain, and can be used, for example, as a knee orthosis, prosthesis, or exoskeleton.

Abstract: A method and apparatus to detect environmental triggers of stress and antecedent physiological stress symptoms of a patient, followed up with delivery of stress relieving therapeutic response to the patient and a chronological report of events. An embodiment comprises a first device worn by the patient that contains sensors and can transmit and receive signals and a second device used by the caregiver that can transmit and receive signals. This integrated system continuously monitors environmental triggers and physiological stress indicative parameters of a patient diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder, or other emotional or physical disorders, and compares these parameters against thresholds for the parameters. These thresholds can be configured automatically by the system—based on past episodes—or manually by the caregiver, or using automatically configured thresholds that are fine-tuned by the caregiver. When the parameters exceed the configured thresholds, several responses can be automatically generated by the system including: 1) generating therapeutic calming responses and cues to the patient to alleviate the episode, 2) sending notifications to the caregiver's device for intervention, and 3) creating a chronological assessment report of environmental stress triggers, antecedent physiological stress symptoms, and the resultant behavior of the patient.
