Abstract:
A method for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) includes supplying an inflation gas at an operative pressure to an inflation actuated soft gripper device to change form from an undeployed state to a deployed grip state that accommodates and grips a human torso. The inflation actuated soft gripper device includes a first inflatable gripper arm having a first distal end and a second inflatable gripper arm having a second distal end. The first distal end and the second distal end approach one another from the undeployed state to the deployed grip state. The first and second distal ends are spaced apart from one another further in the undeployed state than in the deployed grip state. An actuator power and a CPR control signal are delivered to a CPR pressure application device to cyclically extend and retract a pressure applicator along an axis in alignment with a sternum of the human torso.
Abstract:
A lumbar support apparatus for a powered exoskeleton includes a support member and a lumbar support member. The support member includes a back portion, a first arm, and a second arm. The back portion has a first surface and a second surface that extends between a back portion first end and a back portion second end. The first arm extends from the back portion first end. The first arm defines a first attachment point for a first leg support. The second arm extends from the back portion second end. The second arm defines a second attachment point for a second leg support. The lumbar support member is disposed on the first surface of the back portion.
Abstract:
Portable powered stretching exosuit (PPSE) systems and methods according to various embodiments are described herein. The PPSE can be used to facilitate stretching routines for athletics, rehabilitation, or for therapeutic purposes such as maintaining mobility for DMD patients. The PPSE is comfortable, relatively easy to don and doff, and in a form factor such that the PPSE can be worn during the wearer's normal activities. The PPSE may be self-powered, and automatically perform or assist with specific stretching routines. PPSEs may be optimized for one or more specific stretches, whether for athletic performance, medical purposes or rehabilitation following surgery or injury.
Abstract:
A pelvic-abdominal support garment including a waist encircling band having shorts secured to the lower edge thereof, the shorts having a receptacle for receiving an ice pack, and a strap member secured at one end thereof to the back of said waist encircling band and the other end thereof attachable to the front of the waist encircling band after passing under the crotch region of the shorts to apply pressure to the crotch area of the wearer.
Abstract:
Devices, systems and methods are described which control blood pressure and nervous system activity by stimulating baroreceptors. By selectively and controllably activating baroreceptors and/or nerves, the present disclosure, according to some embodiments reduces blood pressure and alters the sympathetic nervous system; thereby minimizing deleterious effects on the heart, vasculature and other organs and tissues. A baroreceptor activation device or other sensory activation device is positioned near a dermal bone to provide the treatment.
Abstract:
A compression therapy device may include a wearable article having independently inflatable and deflatable sealed cells. The location of the sealed cells in the article may be tailored to the anatomy of the device user. A method of providing the therapy device may include measuring one or more anatomical areas on the patient where compression is desired, providing the measurement to a device provider, and receiving an article having multiple sealed cells localized at the one or more anatomical areas. A method of manufacturing the therapy device may include receiving a measurement of an anatomical feature of a patient and determining a configuration of seals to be incorporated in a template article. The configuration may result in the sealed cells providing a pressure on the patient's anatomical feature.
Abstract:
A sleeve that provides mechanical stimulation to the arm to prevent bone density loss. A primary goal of this product is to prevent bone density loss that occurs during extended space travel. For one embodiment, only the predefined frequency specifications had to be met (between 40 Hz and 60 Hz). By meeting these frequencies for a duration of 30 minutes the product will theoretically prevent the loss of bone density. Additionally, clinical trials will need to be conducted before this product can be marketed. The product includes of several mechanical vibrators attached to a sleeve. The vibrators are small unbalanced-mass motors which are similar to those found in cell phones. The motors are encased in dome shaped housings designed to reduce lateral vibrations along the arm. The product is controlled using an Arduino board attached to the sleeve that actuates the motors.
Abstract:
A method and device for relieving muscle tension and spasms in a user's head, neck, shoulders and back is provided. The method and device may be used by an individual to apply pressure to specific pressure points on the trapezius muscles of the user's shoulders, sub-occipital area of the user's neck and rhomboid and thoracic paraspinal region of the user's back.
Abstract:
The present invention disclosed a method of performing Soojichim acupuncture on oneself using a copy of the person's body. The method includes: making an instantaneous molding of any one of hand and foot of the person requiring Soojichim acupuncture; forming a copy of the body on the basis of the instantaneous molding;marking an acupoint location and a reference point on the body copy; drilling a hole into the marked acupoint location on the body copy; attaching the body copy based on the marked reference point closely onto the body of the person requiring Soojichim acupuncture; marking the acupoint location at a skin of the person requiring Soojichim acupuncture through the drilled hole of the body copy; baring the body copy from the person requiring Soojichim acupuncture that the acupoint location is marked at the skin thereon; and performing Soojichim acupuncture through the drilled hole at the marked acupoint location of the body copy by the person.
Abstract:
An energy-enhanced health-promoting glove structure is disclosed, wherein a glove body is provided with an energy-generating material that is distributed on at least one surface of the glove body at different densities and over different extents in accordance with a distribution density of acupuncture points on a human hand and requirements in selecting the acupuncture points on the hand, so that stimulating and regulating effects of various strengths can be produced at different meridians and acupuncture points of the hand. In addition, the glove body remains perfectly soft in areas that need not produce such effects and therefore provides a more comfortable wearing experience.
