Abstract: A decision support tool to assist decision-making in the operation of a facility. The decision support tool allows a user to perform operational programming of the facility so that the analysis of specific operational events is flexible and “on-demand.” This is achieved by allowing the user to set scope and timeframe of the analysis according to business needs. As a result, the organization can make better-informed judgments whether to add operational activities and how to adjust the ones already formulated in the program. The decision support tool can also allow for the application of strategies to communicate intent behind the programming instructions and to improve the quality of business decisions.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for upgrading catalytic slurry oil to form naphtha boiling range and/or distillate boiling range fuel products. It has been unexpectedly discovered that catalytic slurry oil can be separately hydroprocessed under fixed bed conditions to achieve substantial conversion of asphaltenes within the slurry oil (such as substantially complete conversion) while reducing or minimizing the amount of coke formation on the hydroprocessing catalyst. After hydroprocessing, the hydroprocessed effluent can be processed under fluid catalytic cracking conditions to form various products, including distillate boiling range fuels and/or naphtha boiling range fuels. Another portion of the effluent can be suitable for use as a low sulfur fuel oil, such as a fuel oil having a sulfur content of 0.1 wt % or less.

Abstract: A process for selective oxidation of dimethyl-1,1′-biphenyl(s) to form methyl-1,1′-biphenyl mono-carboxylic acid(s), which can be esterified to form plasticizers, comprising contacting a solution of dimethyl-1,1′-biphenyl(s) in acetic acid in the presence of an oxidation catalyst and air under time and temperature conditions sufficient to oxidize the dimethyl-1,1′-biphenyl(s) into one or more methyl-1,1′-biphenyl mono-carboxylic acid(s) products, conducting at least one of (i) adding an antisolvent, or (ii) optimizing a total conversion of dimethyl-1,1′-biphenyl(s) by oxidation based upon a molar ratio of dimethyl-1,1′-biphenyl isomers, or (iii) precipitating the methyl-1,1′-biphenyl mono-carboxylic acid(s) products by lowering the temperature, or (iv) decreasing the oxidation reaction temperature to enhance conversion of aldehydes over methyl functional groups, so as to limit over-oxidation of the dimethyl-1,1′-biphenyl(s), wherein the oxidation reaction is conducted in the absence of bromide-containing catalysts.

Abstract: A method for producing diesel fuel from biocomponent feeds includes hydrotreating the feed followed by catalytic dewaxing with a 1-D, 10 member ring molecular sieve containing catalyst. The hydrotreated feed may be cascaded directly to the dewaxing step, or the hydrotreated feed can undergo intermediate separation. The diesel fuel resulting from processing of the biocomponent feed exhibits superior cetane values.
