Abstract: A stabilizing medical belt or harness method and apparatus for averting injury in individuals that are prone to falls is configured to be worn by the user as a belt or harness and operated autonomously. Power is preferably provided by a battery pack located on the belt or harness. The invention includes a plurality of gyroscopic drives that produce a strong stabilizing effect when activated by a central computer that detects when the user is about to slip or fall. The medical stabilizer belt or harness will also aid patients in physical therapy by assisting in balance during recovery.

Abstract: A patient brace system and method of using the same are disclosed for treatment of lower extremity injuries. Described brace systems include a crutch, at least one crutch sensor, a patient brace, at least one controller, and a rehabilitation application. The crutch sensor(s) measure one or more crutch parameters. The controller(s) are operable to receive and process a signal(s) indicative of the crutch parameter(s) and produces patient gait data that, in turn, is communicated to a data hub. In some embodiments, the patient brace may also include at least one brace sensor configured to similarly communicate with the data hub. The rehabilitation application is communication with the data hub and determines a response output based on the information fed to the data hub, the application then communicating the response output to at least one of a caregiver, a user of the patient brace, and/or to the patient brace.

Abstract: A device may include a high-level control layer comprising a convolutional neural network (CNN) configured to receive exoskeleton sensor data from one or more sensors on an exoskeleton and generate a user state estimate. The device may include a mid-level control layer configured to receive the user state estimate and generate a torque command for an actuator based on the user state estimate. The user state estimate may be an estimated gait phase, where the mid-level control layer generates the torque command as a function of the estimated gait phase based on an assistance profile. The high-level control layer may include a backward labeler and a real-time adaptation trainer. The backward labeler relabels ground truth gait phase from the exoskeleton sensor data using a local peak detection. The real-time adaptation trainer trains the CNN in a single epoch of backpropagation with the ground truth gait phase.

Abstract: A movement support device is provided, which early recognize a possibility of contact of a user with a moving body and perform an appropriate movement support operation according to the recognition. It is determined whether there is a possibility of contact of a vehicle with a white cane while maintaining a distance from the vehicle based on a relative position relationship with the vehicle, which is recognized by images from a camera, and a change thereof. When it is determined that there is a possibility of contact, the movement support operation is performed. Thus, the possibility of contact of the vehicle with the user can be early recognized, and when there is a possibility of contact, the movement support operation according to the actual situation can be immediately started, which results in an appropriate acquisition of a start timing of the movement support operation.
