Abstract:
A crude oil or fuel oil composition comprises a major proportion by weight of a crude oil or a fuel oil and a minor proportion by weight of a polycarbonate containing the group ##STR1## where n is an integer of two or more and A is an alkylene, aralkylene or arylene radical, provided the alkylene group can be interrupted by one or more hetero atoms or by one or more carboxylic ester, carbamoyl, urethane, urea or tertiary amino groups. A typical polycarbonate has the formula ##STR2## where R are C.sub.10 to C.sub.30 alkyl groups.
Abstract:
Polyoxyalkylene esters, ethers,ester/ethers or mixtures thereof containing two C.sub.10 -C.sub.30 linear saturated alkyl groups and a polyoxy (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkylene glycol group of molecular weight 200 to 5,000 have been found to be effective distillate fuel flow improvers, especially for narrow boiling distillates hitherto difficult to treat, they may also be used in combination with conventional additives such as ethylene/unsaturated ester copolymers and nitrogen compounds such as diamides or amide/amine salts, ester/amides of dicarboxylic acids.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a compound as a cold flow improver for a fuel composition, said compound being an ester of (i) a polyol wherein the polyol is selected from at least pentaerythritol, polymers thereof and mixtures thereof; and (ii) a fatty acid oligomer, wherein the fatty acid oligomer has a degree of polymerisation from 2 to 7. The ester compound can be used for reducing, preventing or inhibiting cold filter plugging in a diesel engine.
Abstract:
This invention provides hydrocarbon oil compositions comprising a major amount of a hydrocarbon oil and, as active ingredients, minor amounts of a copolymer of at least one n-(C.sub.8 -C.sub.40 -alkyl) (meth)acrylate with maleic anhydride, and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of a homopolymer or copolymer derived from an unsaturated hydrocarbon monomer, an ester and a wax anti-settling additive; additive concentrates containing the active ingredients and use of the latter in improving the cold flow properties of hydrocarbon oils.
Abstract:
Polymer of number average molecular weight 1,000 to 20,000 containing the repeating units (I) (II) or (III) (II) have been found useful as low temperature flow improvers for distillate fuels particularly in combination with other additives. ##STR1##
Abstract:
The dispersants are formed by reacting (a) at least one dispersant having at least one primary or secondary amino group and/or at least one hydroxyl group, with (b) at least one polyolefinic compound substituted at each terminal position by a succinic group. Suitable substances for use as reactant (b) include compounds derived from at least one telechelic compound having up to 5000 carbon atoms and at least two terminal methylene groups by reaction with maleic anhydride or the like. The products are deemed to be effective dispersant/detergents for use in fuels and lubricants. In fuels the products are deemed to exhibit the property of inhibiting and/or reducing deposit formation such as intake valve deposits. In crankcase lubricants, the products are deemed to provide desirable viscosity index improving properties.
