Abstract:
A compression-release brake system is provided that includes a lost motion exhaust rocker assembly, an actuation piston, and a reset device. The actuation piston includes an actuation piston body that is slidably received by the rocker arm to define a piston cavity in the rocker arm and is movable between piston retracted and extended positions. The actuation piston is configured to be operatively associated with the exhaust valve to permit unseating of the exhaust valve from the seated state. An actuation piston check valve is configured to move between closed and open positions to permit hydraulic fluid flow through an actuation piston communication port to the piston cavity. The reset device includes a reset check valve and a reset pressure control spring for applying a biasing force to the reset check valve to urge the reset check valve toward an open position.
Abstract:
A valve actuation system is disclosed for use with an internal combustion engine. The valve actuation system may have a rocker shaft, a rocker arm pivotally mounted on the rocker shaft, at least one cam follower and a pushrod connecting the at least one cam follower to the rocker arm. The valve actuation system may also have a plurality of gas exchange valves, and a bridge connecting the rocker arm to the valves. The valve actuation system may further have at least one spring disposed around each of the valves and configured to bias each of the valves toward closed positions, and a rotocoil configured to rotatably connect the at least one spring to each of the valves. The rotocoil may have an internal chamfer at a bridge end with an angle of about 26-28°. The at least one spring may have an assembled load of about 750-850 N.
Abstract:
A valve bridge is disclosed for use with an internal combustion engine. The valve bridge may include a body with a central cavity formed in a center portion of the body for receiving a hydraulic lash adjuster, and opposing first and second lateral extensions on opposite sides of the central cavity. The valve bridge may further include a first bore in the first extension for receiving a first valve stem, and a second bore in the second extension for receiving a second valve stem. The valve bridge may also include a first internal groove in a wall of the central cavity configured to receive fluid, as well as a first internal passage in the body that extends from the first internal groove toward the first bore. In addition, the first internal passage may extend from a higher gravitational point within the body to a lower gravitational point within the body.
Abstract:
A rocker base is disclosed for use with a valve actuation system. The rocker base may have a housing with a top, a bottom, side walls connecting the top to the bottom, and end walls disposed between the side walls. The rocker base may also have rocker arm supports located inside the housing and integrally formed with the side walls, and an injector spring pad extending from one of the end walls toward a center of the housing. The rocker base may further have a rib connecting the injector spring pad to one of the rocker arm supports.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine having a valve lifter assembly is disclosed. The internal combustion engine comprising an engine head having at least two wells adapted to receive at least one valve lifter, the at least one valve lifter includes a flat surface, at least one spacer installed within the engine head having a first surface, a hollow portion, and a second surface, the first surface is tapered with respect to a vertical axis of the at least one spacer, and a tie-bar plate for coupling the at least one spacer using head bolts. The at least one spacer and the at least one valve lifter are operatively arranged during operation in such a way that the flat surface of the at least one valve lifter faces the first surface of the at least one spacer to prevent rotation of the at least one valve lifter.
Abstract:
Valvetrain of an internal combustion engine, including a rocker support, a fulcrum, and a rocker. The rocker support is mounted to a cylinder head and fixed relative thereto. The rocker is positioned about the rocker support and partially in an axial aligning groove of the rocker support. The fulcrum is sandwiched between the rocker support and the rocker. The rocker oscillates about the fulcrum as forces are received and applied to a first and a second end of the rocker.
Abstract:
A tappet (1) for a reciprocating-piston combustion engine, which is situated within a tappet guide of a component fixedly attached to the engine, and having a bearing-mounted roller (8) guided on a pin (3), which roller is in active contact with a cam or an eccentric of a shaft of the reciprocating-piston combustion engine. The casing surface of the cam or eccentric is implemented axially parallel to the shaft and the roller (8) is guided so as to oscillate on the pin (3).
Abstract:
An anti-rotation guide for a lifter in an overhead valve valvetrain. The anti-rotation guide includes a plug having two lobes connected through a neck region. A first lobe of the plug is held within a bore in the lifter. The bore forms an opening at the edge of the lifter through which the neck of the plug emerges. The bore in the lifter accommodates a first lobe of the plug that is wider than the opening in the edge of the lifter, whereby the plug is shaped to prevent its slipping from the lifter through the opening. The lifter reciprocates in a first bore in the cylinder head. The second lobe of the plug extends outward from the lifter into a second bore formed in the cylinder head and adjoining the first bore. The second lobe reciprocates in the second bore and limits rotation of the lifter.
