The method reduces the microbial growth in fuel by administering an antimicrobial peptide (or efflux pump inhibitor) to a fuel phase of the fuel, an aqueous phase of the fuel, or both, which disrupts the cellular membrane (or the efflux pumps thereof) of microbes comprising the growth.

A synergistic mixture comprising from 1 to 99.9% by weight of compounds having structural elements (I) in which the free valencies on the oxygen atom and on the nitrogen atom may be combined to form a five-, six- or seven-membered ring and the benzene ring may also bear substituents at one or more of the free positions, and from 0.1 to 99% by weight of sulfur-containing organic compounds with antioxidant action. This synergistic mixture is suitable as a stabilizer for stabilizing inanimate organic material, especially mineral oil products and fuels, against the action of light, oxygen and heat.

The present invention relates to functional fluid compositions containing friction modifiers, and specifically stable compositions containing friction modifiers with limited solubility in and/or limited compatibility with the functional fluids with which they are used. In particular the present invention deals with functional fluids used in internal combustion engines, such as engine oils, and friction modifiers that contain one or more amide functional groups, where the friction modifier is present in the functional fluid composition at levels that would otherwise cause the composition to be unstable and/or hazy.

This invention relates to a lubricating oil composition and production thereof. The lubricating oil composition comprises a Mannich base represented by the following formula (III) (wherein A and R2 are as defined in the specification) and a lubricant base oil. The lubricating oil composition according to this invention exhibits excellent cleansing and dispersing performance and excellent anticorrosion performance.

This invention relates to a Mannich base, production and use thereof in producing a detergent. The Mannich base is represented by the following formula (III), wherein A and R2 are as defined in the specification. The Mannich base can be used to produce a detergent and a fuel oil composition exhibiting excellent deposit formation suppressing performance and excellent anticorrosion performance.

The present invention provides highly fluorescent markers, made from a reactive polymer and an isocyanate, that fluoresce in the ultraviolet or near infrared region without being visible to the human eye at low concentrations in the fluid or article being marked. The molecular weight and fluorescence emission wavelength of these highly fluorescent marker compounds can be adjusted to provide a multitude of markers with unique fluorescence signatures.

The fuel soluble additive includes a quaternary ammonium salt derived from the reaction of (a) a hydrocarbyl amine containing at least one tertiary amino group, (b) an epoxide compound selected from a glycidol, a glycidyl ether, glycidyl ester, polyglycidyl ether, a polyglycidyl ester, and combinations thereof, wherein substituents of the glycidyl group have, on average, less than five carbon atoms per hetero atom, and (c) optionally a proton donor.

A composition and method of improving the fuel economy of hydrocarbon fuel-powdered internal combustion engines. The composition contains a propoxylated and/or butoxylated reaction product of (a) at least one fatty acid, fatty acid ester, or mixture thereof and (b) a dialkanolamime. The composition is added to a hydrocarbon fuel in an amount of about 5 to about 2,000 ppm, based on the weight of the hydrocarbon fuel, to reduce friction within the engine and achieve an enhanced fuel economy.
