Abstract: Disclosed here is a method of matching color and appearance of coatings containing at least one effect pigment. The method involves: obtaining, for a coating sample, sample color image data having pixel-specific color model properties; generating a characterizing histogram for the sample color image data, wherein the characterizing histogram represents an appearance feature descriptor of the coating sample; creating a sample histogram vector from the characterizing histogram; retrieving a specimen histogram vector for a candidate coating specimen; and calculating a cosine similarity value from the sample histogram vector and the specimen histogram vector, wherein the cosine similarity value indicates how well the candidate coating specimen matches the coating sample to be matched.

Abstract: An illumination device and method are provided herein for calibrating individual LEDs in the illumination device to obtain a desired luminous flux and a desired chromaticity of the device over changes in drive current, temperature, and over time as the LEDs age. The calibration method may include subjecting the illumination device to a first ambient temperature, successively applying at least three different drive currents to a first LED to produce illumination at three or more different levels of brightness, obtaining a plurality of optical measurements from the illumination produced by the first LED at each of the at least three different drive currents, obtaining a plurality of electrical measurements from the photodetector and storing results of the obtaining steps within the illumination device to calibrate the first LED at the first ambient temperature. The plurality of optical measurements may generally include luminous flux and chromaticity, the plurality of electrical measurements may generally include induced photocurrents and forward voltages, and the calibration method steps may be repeated for each LED included within the illumination device and upon subjecting the illumination device to a second ambient temperature.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a control unit. The control unit calculates an RGB value output by an imaging apparatus when imaging of a predetermined color is performed by using the imaging apparatus by using characteristic data related to a spectroscopic sensitivity characteristic of the imaging apparatus, photographing-side spectroscopic data, and color spectroscopic data. The control unit acquires display-side spectroscopic data related to a spectroscopic distribution characteristic of a light source in a display environment in which imaged data imaged by the imaging apparatus is displayed on a display apparatus. The control unit calculates an XYZ value when the predetermined color is displayed on the display apparatus by using the display-side spectroscopic data and the color spectroscopic data. The control unit calculates conversion information for converting the RGB value into the XYZ value.
